So I bought the DC735cb glass two years ago off the Dobyns site because it was mislabeled and I didn't have a cranking rod. I wanted something to fish cranks around rip-rap. I had no clue what I was really getting.

The more it has been in the boat the more I have been using it and it has a permanent spot on the deck now. Squarebills on rip-rap, points and rocky shoreline has put a lot of bass in the boat.
Cranking mid depth cranks doesn't wear me out with it either. It is great with Bandit 100's to 300's and even a 6xd was under control.

And recently I have been throwing bladed jigs with it and wow, it casts them a mile with that great tip action but also rips them out of the weeds really well with the strong core. It also has handled several large pike with lots of control.

I have been pleasantly surprised with the feel in a glass rod. I know it is a hybrid but I was worried I would lose contact with the bait, but that is not the reality. I know exactly when the squarebill or chatterbait are running correctly or not.

Only down side I see is accuracy in casting. I would not choose this rod if I had to throw any of these baits around cover, such as cypress trees or docks with lots of obstacles. On rip rap and large weed flats this is the rod for you.

Awesome post and even better fish. Question- I know I have a lot of these I thought I would have less as I progress but the list keeps growing lol. Anyways does the DC mean it's a glass rod? Compared to a ###C or ###S? Thanks.

D = I don't know (probably Dobyns )
C = Champion

73 = 7'3"
5 = power for that type of rod
cb = crankbait
glass = glass composite

I have one of the mismarked ones too, and its actually a 6 power but says 735.  I mostly use it for big spinnerbaits but i think it is going to move up to heavy swimjigs since I am starting to throw those in the grass.

Maybe some of the smaller glide baits I have as well, and of course its original purpose of pitching spinnerbaits around docks

Joe,

Grab a 1/2 oz chatterbait and have fun with it. Pitching and casting. You'll thank me later.

Yep. That too!!  Especially in the grass in a bluegill color.

Original SV 103. That'll get'em out.

Jacob, what Zippy has told you is correct.

Some other things you may want to know about Dobyns numbering system:

C = Casting
SF = Spinnng
FH = Full Handle
SH = Split Handle

All the spinning rods appear to say SF. I am not 100% certain what the F stands for, but since they all seem to be Fast Action rods I assume that is what the F stands for - Fast Action.

Smallie,

Thank you for the addition.

Hope I didn't step on your toes or take the thread off track.

Excellent review of this rod brother. It's been on my Christmas list since they were released and I show it to Josh and Eileen EVERY year.  lo

Thanks Smallie and zippy. That makes the while dobyns rods system a lot clearer.
