Favorite combo?
« on: September 10, 2019, 05:09:16 PM »

I was wondering what is your favorite combo that you own, not necessarily the best rod and reel you have but just your favorite combo you just love throwing?

Mine is FR 703 with Daiwa Fuego CT w/ 30# braid I use it for lipless crank baits, light spinnerbaits,Zara spooks, pop r's and light buzzbaits,I can throw that thing all day and it doesn't wear u down and cast those  baits a mile and when you get a fish on it you got a fight on your hands which is a blast!

I'm almost the exact same. FR 733C, Daiwa Fuego CT (8.1:1). I currently have mono on the reel because I haven't used Daiwa for a lot of years and didn't want to have to deal with backlashes on braid while learning a new reel. I'll be going to 30 lb. braid soon though.

I have to say I also like a Gen 3 Abu Revo Premier on this rod too. It's lighter and a little smaller than the Fuego. Once I get a 734 or 735 the daiwa will go on that rod and the Revo will go back on the 733.  ~sun

My favorite, the one I most prefer to fish, and the one I most prefer to have a fish on is my LSCR with the Tatula CT type-R. Light, sensitive, strong, and puts me in control.

My favorite also happens to be a LSCR.  I call it my short blue rod.  I   always have a Daiwa SVTW 103 series mounted.  It just happens to be one of those rods that feels like it belongs in your hand.  Sensitivity is great and power is surprising.  Clearly my favorite

WOW! One favorite is impossible right now. Ever since I discovered High end rods and reels it is impossible to have a favorite. Each has their own niche and they all feel like an extension to my arm and wrist.

Now as far as looks my LSCR is it by far. A real work of art that is functional. I know I am going to cry when it breaks.

Favorite reel? Favorite rod? Favorite rig? Oh my, my head is spinning! Lol.

I really love my 14Scorpion, Ark Sniper, 12lb Sufix Advance combo right now. It's just hard to put down.

Now, as far as lighter rigs, there is nothing like my Shimano Calcutta 50, on my LSCR Scorpion rod, with 20lb Power Pro.

How are you liking the Sufix Advance so far?

I bought 14 and 17 lb and both feel too stiff. I had to spool it and the tie it off to the boat and walk it out and stretch so it wouldn't unspool itself. After using it two trips I had to repeat the process. It is very abrasion resistant except for the Musky that bit off my chatterbait. And very sensitive but then most stiff lines are.

My 2 LSCRs, while not as high end as the ones you guys have, are absolutely among my favorites. I just don't get a chance to fish the techniques they were designed for too often. In fact I had one in Zippy's boat up at Winni. If I hadn't been sidelined I may have gotten to use it then though.  :P

I love it. The 12lb is just perfect. The 17lb is stiff, but I use that for heavier applications like a 3/8 or 1/2oz weight pitching creature baits. I dont have any issues with it given that application. You may be using too heavy of line for too light an application. Trust me when I say that the 12lb is plenty strong, and it's insane just how much torture I have put it through without retying.

Tough question. I like them all! Probably if I had to pick one, it would be my cheapest. It just flat out performs great for me. It would be my crankbait set up, consisting of a Daiwa Fuego CT spooled up with Seaguar Red Label 12 lb. test on a Powell Diesel crankbait stick. I've caught a million fish on that combo. I love it!

Somebody has to give Shimano some love...
G Loomis GLX894 Heavy. Excellent mat punching rod. Currently match up with Metanium. I can't honestly say I'm in love with the reel as the drag isnt as strong as I think it should be. But small and light.

Honestly my favorite one is my cheapest one. Berkley Lightning Rod 7 H with a $50 reel on it with 50lb braid.

However, I am very partial to frog fishing. I just need the backbone, not the sensitivity
