Okay, Which One Of You Done It!
« on: October 08, 2019, 01:16:47 PM »

Which one of you no good low down four flushes gave the bait monkey my address again?

I thought I finally found a way to hide from him but this showed up at my door today.

Actually, I blame you all for this, at least those who own these and talk about them.and that's what I'm telling the wife. You guys made the monkey make me do it.  lo

Actually, Bass Pro still has their 6 pay promotion going on, so the monkey whispered in my ear and I caved. Too bad or maybe thank the Lord  they don't carry Dobyns rods.

Smallie, I have a whole gaggle of those reels and would not be without them.  I like the 7 gear better than the 8 but they are all good.  I have 2 of the 6 gear, 2 of the 7 gear and 2 of the 8 gear. I am truly spoiled.  Now I have a bunch of Lew's I need to get rid of someday.  I have not used them since the Diawa reels arrived.

I have a feeling this is not going to be my last.  ::) Other gear ratios will follow I'm sure.

Since I already have a Daiwa (Fuego CT) I actually wanted to get a Shimano SLX so I could compare the braking systems but bass Pro didn't have the XT version that I was looking for.  :P Would have been cheaper too.

Oh well. I wanted one of these to try at some point anyway. And the Monkey made me do it!  >:D  lo

Agree with above about 7.3 being better but they are the best reels in their price range. The SV spool is the real deal (pun intended). And you got the handle on the right side. Congrats.

Thanks Barry. Actually since my Fuego is an 8.1 I was looking for the Tatula in the 7.3 but they didn't have any in the left- hand retrieve.  Just means at some point I'll have to buy another Tatula SV.

Yeah having the handle on the right side would be the wrong side.  lo lo

Barry,
I did not know you used the correct handle reels also. I own all three speeds and do have to say there is less play in the 6.4 and 7.3.

I found that it's a torque issue with the 8.1. Not necessarily bad but different for some applications.

I am right handed but have always used left hand retrieve reels. Don't have to switch hands after casting. Makes a little difference when using baits I want to keep on the surface like buzzbaits or horny toads.

Congrats ! I'd pop it open and run a bead of grease around the main gear , the daiwa reels I have bought recently come with little to no grease on the gears.

Thanks John. I'm still not comfortable with that yet but I'm slowly getting there. I've got a couple of old Quantum reels I'm going to practice on first. If I screw something up and can't them back together correctly it's no big deal.

If it feels good right out of the box , it's probably ok for a good while.
Just not as much on there as I like to see, lol.
Easiest way to do it is leave the spool and the palming side plate attached tight , that keeps the pinion lined up when you pop the gear side plate. Also mark the top of pressure plate for the drag with a sharpie or something if you lift it out. You always want to put that back on the same way it came off. On some shimanos that's a lot more important , because they are dished out on one side.
Enjoy the SV.  ~cf
