When bank fishing how does one determine the water clarity for lure color selection?

The same way I do when I'm on a boat. Look at things in the water and see how far down I can see objects. If there's not rocks/weeds/etc visible then I will dip a lure in the water and see how far down in the water I can see it until it disappears.

Fishballer hit the nail on the head, the same way I determine water clarity when I'm on the boat is similar to when I'm bank fishing.

Dirtier the water the darker the color, and the noisier the bait.  Chatter bait, spinner bait, even a u-vibe for tail vibration.  The clearer, watermelons, browns, and shad colors.   A general pattern.
