Bluff Creek
« on: November 16, 2019, 05:04:57 PM »

In the water at 8:45 on a cold, blue sky Saturday morning with air temp at 41 when I launched and 61 at 2:30 when I put the Xpress back on the trailer. Water temps have dropped quite a bit this week with our first freeze of the Fall, 48 to 52 degrees, a 10 degree drop in 5 days, visibility of about 2-3 feet and a falling tide till almost noon. Had my buddy in the back of the boat for about 4 hours until he had to leave and we enjoyed a decent day of fishing.  Between us we put 22 in the boat with the biggest at 2-8 and most were between 1-8 and 2 pounds. John caught his on a small spinner bait while I used a 3/8 oz. chatter bait in bream color. Fish were  somewhat scattered but mainly located in deeper bends or the mouth of any drain or ditch in 4-6 feet. River is back down after hitting flood stage 2 weeks ago and a stable week of weather is forecast so I plan on a trip early next week.

Sorry Bassinlou but the only pics I took were not pretty. One of my favorite winter time bayous was completely covered with salvinia and made it practically impossible to fish with any moving bait. Had hoped that our recent high waters followed by our cold front,26 degrees Tues. night and very low tides, would have killed it back. Although there were some areas that were better, not all for sure. What I have read recently is that it will eventually kill out the native grass and vegetation which is never a good thing.
