Shimano released this little gem at iCast. Definitely looks pretty sweet and it should be a hit, like all of the MGL spooled reels have been. I don't need one, but I'm sure I'll be buying one eventually. What's everyones thoughts?

I definitely want to play with it. Shimano's 70's are very free spool reels. Trying to use baits above 3/8 ounce, you have to have all brakes on and a good thumb... Shimano keeps amazing me each year...

A 70 and MGL well could be too much to handle...

Sounds like it would be a good fluke reel

I've been using a Citica for about 5 years and I have it wide open, so I'm used to backlashes and some runoff. It doesn't mean I enjoy it but I am used to it. And I'm always hitting something mid-cast especially when I'm throwing it under lay downs and docks.

I have a Curado 70 and love it, what is the difference and wider, deeper spool?

From the specs I've read so far, this reel is basically the same reel, with a new paint job and the MGL spool. The MGL spools are lighter, better balanced, and handle lighter weights better.

Same reel as the previous model. MGL spool, MM gears, new paint.

Think of taking your Ford Mustang and handing it to a Shelby guy and telling him to tweak it.

Sounds nice, I looked and could not find a price, $200+ I'm sure.

I'm sure it will be close. I do know that they have been trying to keep the non-DC versions under $200 but that can be $199 ~b~

If they price that reel over $200, they are gonna be hard to sell.

The previous 70's were 199. I'm pretty sure the DC is the only Curado to ever retail over $200 other than maybe the 300E series (for obvious reasons).

Well what do you think?
She's still in shipping. So we'll see soon.

I have the JDM Engetsu model of this reel from two years ago and it's an amazing reel. They beefed up the drag on this one compared to the Engetsu so I should be able to do some frogging and heavy flipping with this one.

I was shocked to see the $229 price tag as well. Especially considering the Curado DC is only $249. I thought the $199-209 area is where it would have been. My guess is with the SLX line doing so well, they're trying to spread out their price points to hit different markets?

SLX MGL - 149
Curado K - 179
SLX DC - 189
Curado 70 MGL - 229
Curado DC - 249
Chronarch MGL - 279

The jump from the SLX DC to the 70 MGL is the biggest gap in their pricing. 209 seems more fitting if you ask me.  :-\
