I already have a Sierra  704 spinning and a Fury 734C.  I'm looking at the Champion 704CB to cover crank and jerk baits.  Also looking at Champion 735/736C or Kaden 745 for frogs and small swimbaits.  Also need at least passable coverage of small topwaters and good enough to try flipping/pitching.

After reading Gary's advice on glass, will not consider a glass rod.  If I were to go with the 705CB instead of the 704CB, I'm a little concerned that the lighter (1/4, 3/8 oz) crank/jerk baits might not cast very well.

Looking for advice/recommendations, especially based on experience.  :-\

For what you want to use it for the 704cb would be your best bet. Now you won't be able to throw the deeper divers with that rod though. It will also double as a small topwater rod.

The other rod you need is the DC735c or Kaden 745c for frogs, small swimbaits, and light flipping. It is the only one that will work for all three. do not consider a 735/736cb as they will not work for any of these techniques.

Reference to 735/736CB should have been 735/736C (I corrected the original post).

I can tell you from experience, that the CH 735/736 are great sticks for frogging, flipping/pitching, and smaller swimbaits (For example: Ez Swimmers, Psycho shads, etc..) The 736 is a beast in the thick cover. As far as the Kaden 745, can't talk about that one because I haven't put my hands on that particular model of Kaden.

My biggest swimbaits are Gantarell Jr. and S-Waver (168), which are at my current comfort limit price wise.  So 1-3/8 - 1 5/8 oz.  The topwater I need to throw is a Whopper Plopper.  Will a CH 735/736 at least be passable for the Whopper Ploppers.

Checking on jerkbait weights, my only 1/4 oz jerkbaits are some old Rapalas.  So, Champion 705CB is a possibility instead of the 704CB.

Thanks.

You are on the right track with the 705cb then.

The 735 will serve you well with a plopper.

I know the Furys are faster than Colts, but give the 734c a try with those lures, if it doesn't feel comfortable for you, then the 735c will work. I just prefer the softer tip of the 734c to get the right action more easily out of the s-waver 168 than the 735c.

The FR 735C is rated at 1 oz, whereas S-Waver 168 is 1 5/8 oz and the Plopper 130 is 1 3/8 oz. I've had a 1 1/2 oz casting plug on the 734C and the rod feels a little light.  I need a heavier rod for frogs anyways; just need to be absolutely sure before making the investment in the rods.
