Your Next Dobyns Rod Purchase - Why ?
« on: September 24, 2020, 05:44:50 PM »

What will your next Dobyns  rod purchase be and what will you be using it for ? ... I'll go first - I already have the Sierra 734c. , Sierra 735c. and the Sierra 703s. My next rod will most likely be the Sierra 733c. for Flukes, , Senkos , Chatterbaits and assorted treble hook baits where it makes sense to use the 733c. where the 734c. is too much rod . Next , will either be the Sierra 702s. or one of the 705CB more parabolic rods for crank baits . No doubt the Champion rods (and above) are very nice rods - but I thank Gary for developing the Sierra series of rods that are at a price / value point that is a winner for me !

That sierra 702s is on my list as well. I currently don't own any sierras, but give me time. Just fyi, but I enjoy throwing my fury 705cb.

My next rod(s) will be the 742s and 732s for alot of finesse stuff. Then maybe a 741s (if needed) for the real light stuff. I wish there was a store close.

I recently began the process of switching all my primary rods to Dobyns. I currently have the DC 733C FH, DC 734C FH, DC 705 CB and DC 703 SF. Without a doubt my next two additions will be a DC 735C FH and a DC 736 CB Glass that I can hopefully add next month. That should almost cover everything I will need to do. Possibly down the road I may add a FR 795 SB, DC 610-4C, KD 610-4CB and DC 736C FH.

I forgot to add the reason for my next two additions. Adding the 735 and 736CB glass will fill in the gap for heavy jigs and deep crankbaits.

My next three will be 736cbglass, another SA734, and a DRX752sf.
I found myself throwing more bladed jigs and cranks this year. Hence the 736cb and the 734.
Also have wanted to add a dropshot rod for deep lake Erie fishing.

My next purchase will be the DRX 755. I want that rod in a bad way for jig fishing. After that I'll be getting the 795SB specifically for umbrella rigs.

*No 705cb in the Sierra series line , I may have to strongly consider the Fury 705cb ... What lures do you like best with it ?

I have a few on my list, each to fill a specific situation. The problem for me is deciding the order to purchase in.

That said, being bank bound and fishing places with a lot of obstacles I will likely be starting my list with shorter rods (6' 3" - 7')  first. While not set in stone, I think my next purchase is going to be a Champ Boom Boom 705 CB rod. But time will tell......................   ~shade

I think it shines at 3/8. Squarebills, swimjigs, small buzz bait. I got a 4 keitech tied on now.

DRX 723 SF
After my recent experience with my 1st Xtasy (753 SF) after conusulting with Gary Dobyns and a couple other serious fishermen, I think the slightly shorter and a bit quicker 723 will be a great all purpose, multi species (contact baits) rod for Bass and Walleyes. I have fished NRX and SC Elites...these can match sensitivity with any rod I've tried  ~c~

I fish very heavy current, and was having a very difficult time detecting jig bites. A DC 735 got me my fist jig fish and has been a joy to fish, however it feels just about over loaded with 3/4oz jigs.

I now want to throw 1oz jigs so I can keep my jig in the strike zone a little longer, so I think I'll be stepping up to a DC 736C SH.

But would a DC 766FLIP be a better choice as I need to make very long casts?

I emailed Gary and the new Kadens are done and waiting their turn to be shipped.  Maybe sometime in December. I will grab a 713C for sure. The blanks are a bit faster than the Sierras which is my liking. Full rear handle too.  What's not to like. ;PEP)

That is good news. I am planning on driving over to Sulfur Springs, TX when they get those in and use my Veteran discount to pick up a few rods. I have of couple of Kadens I am interested in, the 610-4C and the 735CB.

Might look to replace my DX705C dock rod with a Xtasy 725C, a technique I do a ton off, skipping jigs and that little extra length may make rods even more versatile
