Rod for dragging jigs in deep water

Thanks to IBass Gold, I have to pick a new Sierra rod to add to my fishing arsenal. I have wanted a new jig rod for some time. This will be for dragging 1/2oz ~ 3/4oz (upto 1oz) jigs in deep water in and around 30 foot deep and deeper.
Most likely will be using 16lb ~ 20lb fluorocarbon line, and occasionally 50lb braid.

I have been looking at the Sierra 734 and 735. but leaning more towards the 735. Anyone know if this would be a good option?

I would definitely go with the 735 over 734 in the Sierra line.

I would go with the 735 (that's a MH, right?).  You need a pretty stout rod for that kind of presentation, maybe even a 7.5 length, so you can get a lot of line moving with the rod.  Don't know the Dobyns line that well.

I also would go braid because of the feel and lack of stretch thing,

I'm pretty sure that you will be doing more 3/4 and ounce or even 1.5 ounces because lighter than an ounce is a very slow drop, even in fresh water, in salt it is really slow.

I have used both for Jigs and have had no problem with either. The 735 will have a faster tip in the Sierra series. On long casts it will help on the hooksets.
I tend to use the 734 though because it gives me that extra split second before the fish feels me.
It really comes down to personal preference.

I hate to muddy the water but here it is.  The Sierra series is, by design, a bit slower action in the other series.  To drag a jig in 30 feet of water, the reaction time will be delayed by line stretch and distance. A faster action will help compensate for the slower reaction from jig,bite to your hand and hook set.  It sounds as if you have budgeted for the cost of the Sierra.  A better option, it my view is the Kaden series. Why?  The series is faster than the Sierra series.  Kadens will lock up quicker on a hook set and provide ample power for big fish.  I have Kadens in the 713 and 744 C models (test-types) and they are fast, the right kind of fast. Gary nailed it in this series. If you will be dragging 3/4 jigs fairly often , I would steer you to the Kaden 745 every time.  Wait until December when they hit the shop.  I respect the other members views but I think this is the way to go.

Sorry if I missed you are locked into the Sierra series.  If that is the case, 735C.

Dink Dawg he won the rod here on Ultimate Bass in our IBass online tournament competition.  He gets to pick the power he wants, but I'm only buying him a Sierra LOL

two other aspects Steve that I consider (I toss my 1/2 oz- 3/4 oz on a '765' extra fast):

if you are looking at that rod with multi-use considerations, you can compensate for the 'softer' action with a braid, leader combination and/or looking for lighter wire hooks on those heavy jigs.

According to Gary's interview the other day the Kadens are supposed to be in by the end of the year and they are the same price as the Sierras. If you can wait that long then I would get the KD745 for deep jig fishing. I know this rod is on my list once the Kadens actually arrive in Texas.

Thanks for all the responses guys, but as Mike mentioned I am limited to a Sierra series rod at this time. I may look into the Kaden series rods in the future though and switch the Sierra rod to another technique

*Since you are allowed to ONLY select between the Sierra 734c. & 735c. for the up to 1 oz. jigs in deep water - then it's the Sierra 735c. all the way with #50 lb. braid tied to a #15 lb. FC leader or the straight FC line you mentioned . I have both the Sierra 734c. and the 735c. and I interchange reels with straight braid and straight FC line (depending on technique) which provides me  extremely versatile set up options !! The Sierra 734c. & 735c. run about 1/2 softer action than stated , so a Sierra 735c. is closer to the upper end of a MH action than the stated H action . Additionally the same Sierra 735c. makes for a great frog'n & flip'n set up as well as the rod has great back bone  ... When fishing a jig deep and you slowly move your rod - keep your eyes peeled to the rod tip and keep that index finger pad  in contact with the line will negate any stated slower tip feelings regarding the Sierra rod series . A bit slower tip also is good if you are over anxious (as I am) on hook sets ... Lastly , although a bit controversial to say , I believe too fast of a rod action combined with high modulus graphite makes for a "telephone pole" feeling rod  that tend to break easier . *I am so sold on the Sierra series of bait cast rods I am adding the Sierra 733c. to the 734c & 735c. I already have - no matter what Gary comes out with next !  ...There is my testimony and I'm sticking to it .
