Thanks Bass1cpr, the spot i was fishing is a good summer spot so i said what the heck, ill try it, because the lake was so low.  I couldnt get to any of my other spots.  Angry

What suprises me, is that there are numerous stumps in the flat.  You can usually take a lizard/worm/tube/jig :D and catch them off the stumps.  But with the water so low, the only thing i can figure, is that they where in the grass.  Close to a ditch that runs from the bank to the Creek Channel.

My parents are down there right now. They got down there yesterday actually, but i haven't heard from them yet. I understand y'all had some vicious weather the last couple of days.

I'll forward their reports as i get them.  Wink

Coonhound, it got a little rough here yesterday evening.  We got some hail and high winds, but no tornados.

Yeah, i talked to them early this afternoon. Guess they got ran off the lake when that storm came in. Guess it was pretty chilly there today as well, with wind.

They said the outlook for tomorrow is a bit better, though. I'll post results when i get 'em.

Here's mom's report from today and yesterday on Guntersville. They fish out of South Sauty, and she didn't say where exactly they're fishing...

Quote
Dad caught this fish Monday afternoon...4 lbs 1 oz. He had two other just keepers and a few dinks. I had one dink, a 2-13 and a 2-14. Dad caught all of his on a 10" YUM junebug worm. I had one a 6" lizard, one on a 7" worm, and the dink on a Rat-L-Trap.

* She refers to "keepers" as anything over the 15" limit. Not sure what the length limit is down there, but that's what it is here. They refer to a "keeper" as a fish they could weigh in at a tournament. I just wanted to make sure that no one thought a "keeper" meant fish they were actually keeping. We're all completely catch and release.  Wink

She didn't Mike, but i'll get one today. I'd imagine it's hovering around 60, like Tater said.

I imagine with all that rain it might have dropped a bit.

Cool thanks, I aways like to watch the temps, usually the big stringers are when the water is between 55-60 and occasionally a degree or two either side of that. Clap

She didn't include the water temp, but here's today's report...

Quote
So far three keepers today and a few shorts. Pretty slow. Course, the really exciting part is that two of the keepers came at once on a jerk bait. Yes, two around three pounds each on one cast. One of them didn't get into the boat, but we both saw it on there. Pretty wild!

Don't know how much this one weighed! :-)

She included this pic...

No problem!

We had quite the time with gar down in Florida last week. They made fishing a top water just about impossible.  Roll Eyes The one small lake we fished was over-run with them. It's a small, private body of water...maybe 65 achers total water surface. It really affected the bass fishing. I certainly don't claim to know anything about gar, but if i lived there i'd have to see what could be done about cleaning those out.

Coonhound,

Last Summer, after the grass matted up, i saw numerous gar...  the one in the pic was small compared to the one that tried to inhale my scum frog.  This dude looked like he belonged on The Crocodile Hunter...

I i can find a pic ill try to post them.  Bowfishing is pretty big on the lake.  I have several friends that take big carp and gar.  There thick here on the lake and creeks.

Those gar are crazy. We saw some huge ones in Florida. They look like torpedos coming after your topwater bait. Laugh

I guess you can't really practice 'catch and release' with a bow, huh? Laugh Grin

Today's report was pretty short...mom had a pretty bad signal when she called...

"Four keepers and quite a few dinks today. Mostly on 10" june bug worms. The water temp has fluctuated between 58 and 63, with the better fish coming from the warm water."

They talked about cutting the trip short and heading home tomorrow. I guess they're calling for rain and junk all day tomorrow, so they're going to call it quits. I'll update more if they end up staying...

Yea, its supposed to rain tomorrow...   Roll Eyes  Now, if it was the middle of summer, water temps in the 70's and i was out fishing, id stay out there...

Last summer in steady rain (not a downpour)  Me and my fishing partner couldn't reel em in fast enough off White Trick Worms.   As soon as the rain quit, the fish did too.

Sounds like the water temps are  staying about the same as they was last weekend  Clap  Although, when i went by the creek i fish the most, the water looked more muddy than it has been.   Oh well, it don't matter, Sat. morning i'll be there... :D

Well, all the rain and storms left its mark on the area i fish the most, Crow Creek.  Put in at daylight and the wind wasn't that bad.   Went to my hunny hole and couldnt buy a bite.   Then i remembered my tube of Mega Strike

Put it on my trusty Orange Crawdad Rat-LTrap, caught several dinks, but the photo is of the best fish of the day.

The 35 mph wind gusts and the whitecapping swells made it hard to fish.

Water looked like coffee with alot of cream... Extremly muddy and the water temps have dropped as much as 10 degrees in some spots, but held between 52-56 deg. in less than 2 feet of water.

This fish came out of a grass flat, right before the water started whitecapping.

4-9-05,

My usuall launch ramp was flooded this  morning around 6:45, so i had to go to the new ramp. (picture is on the right in my siggy).  Nice dock, floating dock so it dont matter how high or low the water gets.  Don't necessarly like the ramp...

Anyways, its a 3 mile ride to the creek from this ramp.  There was debris everywhere in the water.  I didnt want to run full speed because i was bobbin and weaving...  :D

Got to the creek and the water is pulling so bad that even with your trollin' motor on high, my boat pretty much sit still.  So started up and went deeper into the creek.  The Debris was worse than the main river.  Started to fish my usual spot, where i have been catching good fish, it was covered up.

Water level being up like it was, i decided to fish some flooded timber.  Fished for around 30 mins or so, and my uncle was fishing the same spot.  we kept hearing something and there was 5 deer came running by in a field adjoining the water.

Kept fishing, the water is too muddy to do anything and never boated a fish.

Thing that bothers me is that i had several nice bites today, but missed them all.  Now granted i was fishing in brush piles, but i had a hit that was a real good fish.   Roll Eyes

I actually got the mess scared out of me this morning too.  I was fishing the same area, out in the flat and i was working the rat-l-trap.  All of a sudden this bass, jumps strait out of the water and about 3 feet in the air.  It scared me so bad i screamed ahhhh   In Shock and my uncle was laughing his head off at me  roll2  This fish nearly landed in the boat!!!

Wish she would have been on my line.   Wink

All in all, had 2 small fish under 12", numerous bites, no keepers and a pretty good scare.  :D

Thanks for th update CouchTater, got to laugh about the jumping fish. I have had that happen many times around here but they are usually big shad, or if you go down in south Louisiana the mullet will drive you crazy.

After the round of Severe Weather we had last night, i figured the fishing would show it too.

Got up this morning and started out the door...  nahhh   Rain Rain Go Away i decided to wait and let it dry out some.

Pulled the boat off the trailer at around 2:30p.m and hit the main river.  This is starting to be repetitive.  From April 1, to today, the wind has been blowing from the NW from 10-30 mph. The creek i usually fish are so rough that its nearly impossible to fish them.

Ended up riding around fishing here and there.  Decided to bream fish for a few minutes and caught several, but i had a fish blow up while i was reeling a bream in.  Put the bream in the livewell and picked up the Albino Fluke...

3rd cast and i saw her make the turn to nail my fluke.  Landed her and 5 of her friends.  The biggest went about 3 1/2  the smallest about a pound...

All fish were released, i THOUGHT i had left my camera at home, but my tie off rope was covering it up...   Roll Eyes  After i had already got to the dock, then i found my camera.

Water temps varied in locations, anywhere from 62 to 66.   Water was very slightly stained.   A whole lot of Barge traffic this afternoon, more than i have ever seen in one afternoon.

This report is for 5-10-05.  I have had the fishing bug since my last trip.  I had planned on fishing the Monday Eve. Tourney, but work prohibited me from doing so.  Anyway, put in the water around 5:30 or so, went to a spot were i usually catch fish in the summertime.  Water is way down, all the laydowns and brush were uncovered.  Roll Eyes  So i went back to were i fished in my last post.  Hopin' those fish were still on bed...

Third cast with an Albino Fluke/Mega Strike combo, i had a fish take my offering.   Clap  Got it to the boat, and i was like what is this?  I have been fishing this area since i was 6 and i had never up until then caught one of these...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/CouchTater/ec05002.jpg

Wanted to take a better picture, but i was quick to put it back...

Most of the time when i see these fish, there the size of a rattle trap or a fluke, usually.  I'd say this one was atleast 16-17 in long about a pound or so in weight.

Depending on which side of the river you fished, the water temps fluctuated from 83 to upper 70's.  In the pic, that far bank was in the 80's.

Water was slightly staind, but there was alot of JUNK and Trash in the water.  Roll Eyes  I bet i picked up 6 Coke bottles and empty Chicken Liver containers.  Angry

Tater

Too bad we don't have the same number of  WP and GW's on the water upriver as they do downriver... (also not that many boaters too)  Police

  5-15-05

Went out this eve. for a couple of hours.  The water level is down, the grass that is starting to grow was out of the water.   Roll Eyes   Was throwing a firetiger s/b with tandem willow's on the point of the grass, when i felt a hit and a tug...  After the outing i had yesterday, it felt really good to have a good fight on my hands.

Finally got the fish to the boat, then i saw what it was...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/CouchTater/ec07006.jpg

Nice cat, put up a good fight, but not what i was after.  Heck, its better than going home empty handed.   Clap

The MegaStrike tube is there for reference, i had a friend of mine tell me that he didn't think it worked that good...  There ya go friend.  :D
