I will be heading up north next friday and was wondering if anyone can give me some reports on how the fish are doing up in Vilas and Lac Du Flambeau. I will be staying on Big Muskellunge Lake in Vilas county. Any reports of the lakes up there would be greatly appreciated. Undecided

I can't tell you about the lakes in that immediate area, but I'm about 30 minutes south in Rhinelander.  We've been doing pretty good up until the last day or so.  In that time, we've had a series of storms come through and let's just say that "Mother Nature is having a psychotic break."  To say the weather has been "unsettled" is an understatement.

But, with that being said, we've been taking largemouth from cabbage weeds and boat docks using spinnerbaits, flukes and senko-style baits.  Pearl and baby bass are good colors for the flukes and watermelon/red fleck or pumpkinseed has been working with the stick baits.  Spinnerbaits have worked with the colors of chartreuse/white and a chrome blade.

Smallies have been found in the rocks and wood (laydowns and stumps), with crawfish colored tubes, as well as the above mentioned baits working.
