I am headed down to Santee for the first time ever with a buddy on April the 15th till the 19th, staying at Blacks Fish Camp. If someone can help me out and point me in the right direction as to where to go and what to use it would be much appreciated. Its going to be fun just to go but a little inside information sure would help, I am coming from Md. so if you need any help up my way just ask. Thanks for your help,

Habby

Well "Santee Bass" has arrived!! ~roflmaoYou will be in a good area as soon as you put the boat in at Black"s.The spawn will be in all stages while you are there, but my guess more will be post rather then pre spawn.Fish cover in shallow areas & also work the cover, ledges & points that lead to deeper water. My guess is you will find most fish in 2 to 5 feet of water at that time.

A WORD of CAUTION!!!If you have never been to the Santee Cooper Lakes I would suggest a guide at least the 1st day. These lakes are very dangerous with thousands of stumps & logs just under the water in many areas. This will give you an idea of how to run areas where the guide takes you & you will learn the patterns the bass are on & which lures they want.If you need any professional help, please take a look at my website www.inkydavis.com .I hope this helps.

I was on Santee during the week of March 16th. I know things have changed since then put here's what we found. Floating Worm-Bubble Gum or White, Chatter Bait- Chartruse with White trailer or White with Chartruse Trailer depending on water color. Spinnerbaits same as above both in 3/8oz. Jigs pitched along trees I used Green Pumpkin with same color trailer and Black and Blue with Okeechobee Craw Trailer.
Worms we used Culprit 7.5" Tequila Sunrise with 1/8oz pegged sinker for pitching.
Shallow Running Crankbaits in firetiger we used Bomber Flat A but with no results. Jerkbait we were told by guy that used to live there to use the large black and silver floating Rapala and no results with this but may be different now. Water temp was 58 degs at this time. In 3 days we only caught about 15 with the largest being about 5lbs although my buddy had one break him off that appeared to be about 8lbs. We left 2 days early due to the fishing being slow and went to Norman and in about 4hrs had about 23 keepers. I was told that the week that you are planning to go to Santee the fishing is supposed to be hot at Norman. Spots on this lake will rip the rod out of hands when using a Jerkbait. Also at Santee or Norman use a GPS and heed the warning about the trees. DO NOT run the middle of the lake at Santee run the edges and find a good map that shows this like Hot Spot Map. Also get your tackle before you go what tackle we could find was a little high. If possible stop at BASSPRO a Charlotte and get a map. There is a woman that works in the Tackle Dept. can not remember her name but she can get you started. If not there is a guy that works there that can help if either are working at the time that you stop.

I did most of the writeing about bass fishing on the Hot Spot Maps on Santee.Another good map with better island detail is one you can buy around the lakes by Atlantic Mapping. Also,I don"t care how good your GPS is,it does not show the stumps under the water.

That was a very good post above.

Well it ends up that the two of us got three bass each in four days of fishing on spinnerbaits ans sink-o's with the bigest about three pounds. The bite was slow for everyone we talked to. One other guy that went with us got a 8 lb 12oz on a spinnerbait.
