Youth Fishing Derby Sat. May 9th (Wyoming Pond)

On Saturday May 9th beginning at 10AM, the Eastern Shore Bassmasters of Delaware will be hosting a youth fishing derby for kids of all ages at Wyoming Pond and town park. Prizes will be awarded to winners of each age division, plus there will be raffle prizes including fishing rod and reel combos, tackle boxes, and lure giveaways.

The derby will conclude with hot dogs, hamburgers, and cold drinks.

There will also be an official BASS Casting Kids competition for kids 7-10 and 11-14. this event will qualify a child from each age division to attend the state finals later this year for a chance at more awards and a scholarship.

Bring your fishing gear and bait and anything else for a funfilled morning of fishing...

The fishing derby went off without a hitch yesterday. Plenty of kids came out to enjoy the unexpected nice weather, and everyone went home with a prize of some sort. Awards were given away for most fish and the largest fish. 1st place with 6 fish received a new fishing rod and reel combo and a small tackle box, 2nd place received a rod and reel combo and a small tackle box. There was a three way tie for 3rd place, each received assorted lure packs, and the lunker of the day was a 13 1/2 inch largemouth bass, which won the young angler a large tacklebox.

The Casting Kids event qualified 2 anglers, in which they each were awarded a framed certificate, a Casting Kids champion medal, and a new Zebco 33 rod and reel combo.

This event was well worth the effort, and we look forward hosting our next one in 2010.
