Yes, it is ANOTHER florocarbon thread!
« on: May 18, 2009, 10:40:48 PM »

I just had to have a MH Clarus to use to "learn" to jig-fish with.  Put 17# 100% Floro on an extra Black Max that was anxiously waiting for something to do, and took it fishing. Left everything else at home and jig-fished 2 weeks solid.  I must say, I really liked it and feel fairly proficient at it now.

BUT! There's always a but.

I also had to have a Team All-Star Heavy Extra Fast with a large spool reel on it with some 30# PowerPro that the frog men said "If ya ain't got one-a them, ya problee ain't gonna never catch another feeesh in all yeerrr days".  I can't let advise like that go, can I??  Well, I kinda like to toss a jig with that set up too.  It also makes a dandy c-rig rig, t-rig tubes this spawn season have been great too with this rod.

Now, what else am I goning to do with this Clarus set-up? Should I keep the Floro on it? Should I change it to something else? Should I get a different reel for it? Should I slap this irritating little monkey and just keep fishing? If that is the case though, what else can I use this for comfortably and will fit in it's effectiveness?

Thanks in advance for the insight - Twitch

(Sorry for the long history- but I RRRREEEEEAAALLLYYY like to talk/think/dream/plan  about fishing)

Use the Claurus for lite jigs and texas rigging.

I have 4 of the Clarus rods, 1 spinning and the other 3 are baitcasters. 1) is 6'10 M/H Fast action
                                                                                                        2) is 7'10 M Cranking Rod Fast Action
                                                                                                        3) is 7'9 M/H Fast action
You don't mention what length Clarus you have but you could use it for a spinner bait rod or maybe a top water rod, it would be good in either choice or just keep it like it is for C-riggin/Texas rigs. Either way you should be happy with the choice you make. Good Luck and Tight Lines to you! ~gf
Oops, forgot to mention that whether you use floro or braid on it you should be more than happy with using the Clarus. I use both mono's and braids on mine with no prob's.

Do you keep the floro on for the spinnerbaits?

Floro, will work great for spinnerbaits. Although it's an expensive choice if that is what you are going to use it for. A good mono will fit the bill just fine.

IMO Floro will work for anything except top water baits, it's best suited for falling baits because the line sinks very well and that is what makes it a poor choice for top water baits, again IMO
