I was stationed at Blytheville in the late 80's early 90's and used to fish Big Lake regularly. Our club fished some other smaller lake like Lake Ashbaugh, Poinset, Lake charles. Just wondering if they are still productive.

Big lake is still producing smaller fish, Poinsett is ok and Hogue has seen some decent fish this year. You can't beat the St Francis when shes around 9' on the flood stage, Cucabur or Tolot are always my favorite also don't forget Big Slew at Paragould.

Guys,

Thanks for the info. I'm fairly new to fishing in the Jonesboro area. This should get me started!

You gents got directions and distance from Jonesboro for any of these lakes? I've fished Hogue, Poinsett, Charles, St. Francis, Village Creek, but would like to try Tulot, Cucaber, Big Slew, and Ashbaugh. I can't find any of those on google...help?

Tulot is on the St Francis south of Truman, AR., Cucabur/St.Francis is South of Black Oak, AR. halfway between there and Caraway, Big Slew/St.Francis is on 412 north of Paragould. I hope this helps always make sure there hasn't been a large rain event within the past 5 days and river stage fron 6-9' is the best.
Kentuckys are great at Lake City south of the bridge. Ashbaugh is at Delaplane, AR. catch and release only.

Director, that was fast! Thanks for the response! That should keep me busy for a while. I just got a new (to me) Nitro 16ft. I know the St. Francis can get small in some places...too small in any of these to get my boat in and go?

You can take it to any of these places, Tulot will be your favorite wait till you see it.

OK...went to Tulot. One of the coolest places I have ever been! Only problem was, I didn't catch a fish! I've never fished a cypress lake like that, with that much mud, not to mention the wind was ridiculous when I went. Fill me in on what you fish with, where, and what conditions are best out there, please!

Thanks!!!

The late summer months are the best. It needs to have not rained in a few weeks or maybe a very small amount. Remember the St. Francis starts at Wappapelo and flows south so the weather up there plays a big part in it. Around the 9' level at Lake city is the idea level for the whole river. Wait till you get a chance to fish Big Slew, make sure you go before duck season starts as we share the same water and they tend to get testy.
