I hit up Shabbona for the first time this year.  We ended up getting 8 bass with three that were over 14" the biggest of wich was about 3 pounds.  Every bass we caught was on a spinnerbait.  I had a few hits on crankbaits but they shook off.  We also had two huge bass grab at a musky swimbait at the side of the boat.  One of them was around 4.5+ and the other was pushing 6.  I really wish we could have got the big one, she came flying out of a weed clump trying to get that swimbait.

IT was fun, but there were about 20 boats or more.  Not what I thought it would have been like on a tuesday.

HUM, I may have to check this place out again. Sounds like a good day on the water. I wonder if these BBZ swimbaits would do any good out there, not having much luck with them anywhere else. Congrats on the catch and thanks for the report.

Hey lip,
there is some good bank fishing areas, but I don't know how the bass fishing is on some.  I have only bank fished along the dam area.  I have caught a few bass on spinnerbaits along the dam.

Sorry Karl.  I've been busy catching fish lately.  These are the first 2 I caught today and happened to be the biggest so no more pics.  The biggest came off that was close to 4.  I'm waiting to see what the AC weights will be tomorrow, cause I'm pretty sure I could have brought in a solid 15lbs.

Here is the report I put on another website:

I went to Shab on 7/17/09 and the weather went to hell in a hurry! It was warm and sunny when I left my house and when we put the boat in the water it was 25+mph winds, raining, and cold! A big nasty front swept in and wreaked havoc on the lake.

Its a real bummer that you cant idle with a bigger motor than 10hp in that lake. Its pretty stupid when all these people just put a 9.9 on their boat and cruise making some substantial waves and I cant ilde at 3mph with my 225 Merc. There were literally people pulling smaller motors out of the back of their trucks and mounting them on their boats at the ramps just to have some mobility besides a trolling motor. No wake for anything over 10hp would suffice. I have never been there till today and the lake appears to have potential despite its heavy fishing pressure and seemingly pointless engine rules.

We fished from 1 till about 7. We attempted to fish some of the stump fields out in open water but the wind made it a task so a majority of the boats, including us, were all hiding in the northwest inlet.. There was something busting the surface all around our boat near the pads so I threw my frog for about 20 minutes but got no takers. We ended up getting two fish. One was 3lbs 1oz and the smaller one was 2lbs 6ozs. Both fish were taken on spinnerbaits fishing around weed edges in about 4ft of water.

Here are the two fish.

That sucks that it is a limited horsepower lake.  I thought it was pretty big and able to run big outboards whenever you want.  That sucks, now I can't drive around and do donuts when the fish are biting, BUMMER!
