I haven't had a great bass year this year, but finally hit the lake on a good day.  Sat I fished later in the day from about 430pm to sun down.   The shad were jumping so something was feeding.  Through a lipless crankbait, specifically a Yozuri hardcore drum in painted shad.  I fad out from right to left, and wouldn't you know it, nothing until I made the cast right off the edge of the riprap to my left.  I thought I had hung up on a rock, and then on the third jerk of my rod, the rock moved.  It wasn't a great fight, but it was a fight... after all I was cranking on a ML Avid custom rod with 50lb braid and a newly acquired (traded for) Quantum AC500PTS.  Got the fish up to within 10 inches of my hand and this was a monster!! I heard myself doing a Shaw Grigsby impression I was so excited.  I reached down to lip it, and ..................................................... a final shake of it's massive head and it was gone.  I was easily bigger than my PB 5lbr and fought a lot like the weight of 8 lb catfish I have caught before... It's mouth was big enough to fit my two fists held together..  I can tell you I nearly had tears in my eyes, after the rush of seeing this fish jump a few times and being able to maintain it all the way to my feet.......  I through and cranked for another hour after than and not a single hit.

Sunday I figured I would go out and try again.    The same exact spot I got hit again, this time a nice 2-3lb fish   which sadly is my best bass of the year.    I will be hitting the lake as much as possible during this feeding frenzy and hopefully will catch that beast!!

Good luck.

Reaching for a net would have amounted to the same thing, what I should have done, was lift that puppy out of the water instead of reaching for my lipper tool.

Was at the same spot again this morning trying to find that beast again.  No luck with the monster bass but I did catch a 2 lbr and solid 3.5 lbr on a crankbait and a 4 lbr on a blue shimmer cotton candy vibrashock, it was a great day.

Niuce fishign dug.     Is that lake  a motor limit or electric only lake?    Just kinda curious not sure how many more times the boat will go out this year.   Granted wish in all honesty I could go to the IL rally lol , but doubt it will happen.

The lake is a 10HP motor lake, I wish they would make it a no wake lake instead, but..... as it is, the buddy that has the boat, has a 70hp on it so these were off the bank....
