I am heading to Lake Ouachita this weekend. I have never been on the lake. Can anyone give me an idea what the lake is like. Any suggestions on to catch some bass would also be appreciated.

Thanks

I know it is close to Mount Ida. I am pretty sure my brother said we would be going out of Mountian Harbor Marina. He lives in Arkansas and I am in Louisiana so we are meeting there for a weekend of fishing.

Thanks

I was up there in July, we camp at Big Fir/Housely Point across from Mountain Harbor.  When we were there I caught a few on topwaters and crank baits up towards marker 19.  The river makes a big turn up there and there are some islands with shallow water dropping off in a hurry!  I also fished several humps with deep water all around.  Not sure what the weather has been up there, so the water may not be as clear.

If you have never been it is a gorgeous lake, I am jealous.  Be sure you eat at the Mt. Ida Cafe, good food and great people.

Enjoy.

Talked to a buddy of mine yesterday afternoon. He said if the rain didn't mess them up too much that they were schooling big time a week or so ago, which makes sense as this is the fall and they do that big time then. watch for them coming up in he mouths of creeks or big bays. Also try hitting any brush piles you can find in deeper water with either jigs or big worms in watermelon is what Greg told me. He suggested that you try the long point straight out from Mt. Harbor with a carolina rigged lizard or worm, and cranking and shaky head agains the rock wall straight across as well, might be some Kentuckys or stiped bass running that channel big time right now, but they will be hit and miss as they move in and out feeding. Hope that will help, good luck and let me know how it goes.
