Hi Mike, if you have time, can you tell me the rules about lubing drag washers? I have not been lubing fiber washers on any of the reels I have cleaned so far. I think you oil leather washers. I know there are some you grease. I'll in the meantime go back and look at everything i have printed out. Also I have been greasing the release mechanisms for the spool. Is this correct? I would also appreciate it when you have time to give me instructions on Super Tuning on here or my regular email.

Thanks again. Hope you are doing better.

Fiber washers should get a very thin coat of grease, plastic washers are dry (if you grease them they will slip too much). Shimano has a washer that is black and very smooth, not sure what it is made of but it does not get any grease.

You will get many different answers about leather washers, some say oil to protect them, some say grease will work better. Some say leave them dry? I rough them up and then use a very thin coat of grease, so thin you can't see it but you know it's there.

Yes the release should get a thin coat of grease, nothing should get a lot as grease will attract dirt.

As far as the super tune, have you seen the article in the How To's of Ultimate Bass?

http://www.ultimatebass.com/content/view/72/225/

If you haven't read threw it (6 pages at the beginning of the article you will see the index to the right of the text giving you links to the other pages). This is where I started and then trial and error. So read through it if you haven't and then let me know the questions you have.

Should the fiber washers in the Abus get grease? I read an article where a guy that worked for Abu said that none of the Ambasseduer drag washers get grease.

Yes I copied and am reading those articles. Very informative. You said on your website that super tuning does not help a reel with magnetic brakes. It won't help it at all?

Thanks,

Super tuning a reel with mag brakes is only about half effective. By polishing the pinion gear and shaft you will get some better casting distance and some smoother operation. So yes it will help some, however I wouldn't recommend a person send a reel to be super tuned that had mag brakes unless the person doing the work was willing to cut the price some because there was less work involved and it wouldn't be as effective.

I always put a very thin coat of grease even on the ABU's if you don't and the owner of the reel does not release the drag after each trip the washers and plates will stick together and you will have a completely ineffective drag. Not to much just  a very light film.
