Spent 3 days, Oct 15-17, under tough weather and water conditions but had decent results despite all. First major cold front of the year hit Thursday night and dropped the highs almost 30 degrees by Saturday along with water levels as high as I have personally fished in, 60' below the dam and 35' at Selma gauge. John and I managed 18 keepers Thursday fishing near the dam with most from a small grass bed that had lots of shad and hungry bass around. Friday we had 10 from way up river in Big Swamp creek with almost all coming from the same spot as last year using C-rig baby brush hogs. Friday evening Pastor Watts, who was staying at the same hotel as we were and fishing the mid section of the lake shared his secret spot, a spot we had not fished in at least 20 years, where he had boated over 40 keepers that day. Since he was not able to fish the next day, we were able put 20 keeper sized fish in the boat fishing the area he had shared with us. Guys let me say that if a preacher tells you a fish story you had better believe him. His information saved what looked to be a tough day for us into a very enjoyable one. The only catch was he had caught his fish on white spinnerbaits and we chunked them for a while before switching to watermelon /gold baby brush hogs t-rigged with 1/4 oz. weight fishing in 2-4' of water. A big weight for thin water but with N winds at 20+ blowing right down the bank we were on it was a must. Grass and shad were the key to a decent 3 days of fishing but you had to get off the main river as the hard current and high water was just to much to fight.

Got to give credit were its due and he really came through with some good info. Only thing is I think he caught all the big ones including one over 5 cause we didn't see anything over 2.5 pounds but had a blast catching them.

I'm glad to hear they're still active down there.  I think I'm gonna try to go back down there before the weather gets too cool.

Great report!  We're really finding the schools in the backs of the backs around Eautaw, Demopolis and Gainseville.  I love this time of year!  Grin
