Hello,

I am interested in what types of weights/ head colors, skirt colors, arm length, wire size and blade combos: That every likes.

After talking to a lot of pros, guides and everyday fisherman, I am starting to believe that off the shelf spinnerbaits (and cranks) are less affective now than 10 years ago. Every major company has the same basic types with maybe one "Custom" type. Bass are used to seeing the same basic White/Chart and Blue/Black spinners.

I like some of the "Living" skirts that are out and smaller wire sizes.

I have been told that most pros that are under contract to use a certain company lure tend to throw it as they approach a spot and then switch to a  CUSTOM version of it to fish it out. They believe that throwing different colors or sizes, etc. will get a better reaction bite and fool more fish and use Custom ones about 80% of the time.

Input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

BassProAm it is very rude to come to someones site and advertise from free. Getting a view point on a topic such is this is great but to finish it off by saying you are going to start selling baits and then give your email address (someone could get they from your profile if they wanted to contact you) Please stop putting your website address in your posts. You are more than welcome to add it to your signature.

If you would be interested in advertising please contact Laurie at laurie@ultimatebass.com

That sounded pretty cheezy to me.  Kind of like an infomercial.

Sorry about that,
I was just reading the posts on "Spinnerbait Design" and they had mentioned styles and I wanted to compare/reference some of that in my post. We don't even have a product yet... style collecting input from fisherman and I wanted to make it easy  for them to contact me even if they were not a registered member of this forum.

Sorry again,

If you want to collect information from members here read the threads. Your post here would have been fine. Making it easy for members to contact you if they are not registered members of your site? Again you are advertising your site.....

Make a post and watch it and talk to the members don't direct them to your site... Do you really think we are that ignorant?

BTW welcome to Ultimate Bass I hope you will take the time to read and follow the site rules and enjoy our membership.

Ok,

I didn't mean registered on my site, I meant that I didn't think they could access my email if they were not registered on your site.

I will not redirect anyone away from here, only post questions or comments.

Thanks

Let me try again with out sounding commercial.... Smiley

Looking to see what everyone thinks about the need to have a custom lure to catch more fish.
Pros/Guides seem to think that the off the shelf version is limiting.
They think having something "Custom" is a better way to fish.

I have heard that painting weird colors on their cranks in extremly common on the circuits and that some pretty odd combonations are used.

Anyone doing anything "Custom" to theirs?  Weights/blades/colors?

A need for a custom bait IMHO is based off confidence, if you think you need one to get a bite you will need one.

Way to many options in the fishing world that we are not all using the same spinnerbait on every body of water.  With that general statement out of the way I do believe there is a time and place for them, if the big tournament pros need them to switch over to when around their areas to effectively pull those finicky fish out that may not have been caught using an off the shelf bait I can understand that and believe in it as well.  I think the best thing is to have a selection of all baits to help you put fish in the boat on any given day and it never hurts to change up the bait or even just the retrieve when reworking an area while trying to get the best/most bites you can.

Yeah I agree that confidence is a big part of it.

It has been suggested to me that a lot of pros only through the  off shelf lure- before they ever approach the area they really want to fish. They have to use it by contract and need the cameras to see them throw it. (basic model)
But switch over to a  very customized version of it to due their main fishing.

I have been told of some pretty funny colors  and shapes painted on them.

Most of the Pros Fishing "OFF The Shelf" Modify them before they ever get tied on.  Hooks are sharpened, Bearings and blades Changed, Wire trimmed and a few other mods. Most of them carry skirt building materials in their boat during Prefish so they can tune the colors in to match the hatch. When tourney day comes they are hardly ever throwing a Stock bait at all.  They can still say it is "Brand X" but it will be highly modified.
