im just curious where exactly you guys attach your jig trailer.  i know this sounds like sort of a funny quesiton, but ive seen some photos and videos where some folks rig their trailer so its sort of high up on the bend of the hook whereas others run the trailer all the way down to the shank of the hook.

i wish i could find some photos to show you guys what im talking about but im referring to the standard pork style trailer like this :

it seems to me that if you simply poke the hook thru the chunky part, the trailer can twist from side to side.  shouldnt it be rigged so it stays perfectly straight behind the jig ?

Both ways are exceptable. I like to run mine up on the hook so that it will stay on the bait keeper. There are times when I feel like I may need a larger profile bait or longer profile bait and I will just poke the hook threw the chunk. Usually this is a quick adjustment just to see if it will work. If it does I will find a larger chunk to use.

To keep your trailer facing up shinkwrap it.  just stick the eyelet of your trailerhook in the shrink wrap and then pierce the shrinkwrap with the buzzbait hook now heat the wrap and there you go. I use Gamakatsu trailers they work great

Exactly what Mike said. I thread mine on the hook when using smaller jigs, when I want a smaller profile. I go straight through the head of the chunk when I want a larger profile and slower fall rate.

This is an interesting subject that always gets a lot of different thoughts and ideas going.  Here are my thoughts;

With a chunk style trailer like a Zoom, Net Bait, or a Rage Tail chunk.  I like to just run the hook through the end like you would with a pork frog.  This gives a bigger profile and a lot of movement.  A little trick I  use from the days when a pork frog might fold over on the hook point.  Thread a small piece of a worm like a red shad Power Worm so it covers the shank of the hook from the keeper to the bottom of the bend in the hook then add your chunk trailer.  This keeps the chunk from sliding down the hook shank and covering the hook point, adds a little extra bulk to the bait, and gives a little more scent and attraction.

With creature or craw trailers like a Chigger Craw, craw style baits, beavers, as well as a host of other similar baits.  These I thread on the hook to the keeper for a more compact bait.  These work very well for pitching and flipping into cover.
