I live in Northern CA and am interested in trying night fishing.
I have never fished at night and was wondering what is needed, other than darkness!
I have seen black lights, what type of line works with this?
Also what techniques are used, dropshot? jig? worms?
Any info or tips would be great.

Black lights work with the floroscent lines. They are nice but not really nescessary. I have been useing a cheap red caplight. It doesn't mess up your night vision. For me the overiding factor at night is vibration, So vibrashocks and colorado blade spinnerbaits are my favorites. I do a straight retreive at night because I think it makes it easier for the fish to find the bait. I fish a black and blue jig by just shakeing it in place. Big worms and creaturebaits are good as are buzzbaits and Jitterbugs. Most people fish black or dark colors at night but it never hurts to experiment. i try to fish feeding areas as opposeed to holding areas. Hope this helps a little.

We use black spinner baits with #5 Colorado blade or twin willow leafs. I have also found that a #1 or #11 pork frog (white) works really well as a trailer. If you use a #1 pork frog find some small clear plastic tubing and cut a piece to put on behind the frog to keep from throwing it off. The whole in the #1 pork frog is pretty big and if you don't do something you will go through a lot of frogs in a evening.
