Crappie Fishing Is Picking Up
Camden:
like Mike said its not much different from bass. find the spawning flats. find a expansive flat and pick them apart.

Just fished my last tournament for a couple weeks now and I'm going to try and load the freezer! Water temps are 68-70 I'm figuring the spawn is either in full swing or winding down.
Also our lakes are extremely full will crappie move up with rising water?

I will say this Mike, I have to turn my back to the fish when I put another minnow on a hook. Water temps are 66 to 66.6 degrees as of last Wednesday. The crappie are really turning on around here my friend.
My experience is that if the water rises slowly the fish will usually stay put but if you get a 2 to 3 foot rise in a 24 hour period, the fish around here usually move back out in the channel in deeper water sometimes at the same depth as they were before they moved. Hint Hint !!

What bass1cpr is talking about is before the crappie really start to spawn the egg sack will be a pale yellow but, once the water temperature is right and the females are getting ready to lay them the eggs will turn orange and have a lot of bloody streaks from the fish's veins supplying the egg sack. After the female has layed all of her eggs there will be no eggs left and the egg sack will be blood red from the spawn and reduced in size quite a bit.
