Do you all add a split ring to the spook baits or do you tie right on to the bait?

Tie direct with a loop knot.

I just use a palomar knot and when I clinch it down I leave a tiny space between the knot and the eye of the hook.  This makes it easier for the bait to "walk".  It has worked really well for me. Takes a little practice

Learn to tie a loopknot it's the best connection for any walking or top water bait. After some practice you will be able to control the size of the loop usually no longer than half an inch. It's also the knot I prefer on most of my (crankbaits) there's that word again  lo and there are times that it's tied to a jig also. Usually if that's a swimming jig presentation.

palomar.  cinched down tight.  bigger the spook, easier to walk

Probably the best spook fishermen I've ever seen is Charlie Campbell . He always said to use a snap. I figure I'll take his word for it. I do know guys who use the loop knot but I never liked the idea of it sawing back and forth in the line tie.

Is there a brand better than another reason I'm asking is the lakes I fish have striper and hybrids and they like a spook so I just want to make sure they will hold up. And not brake

We don't have any stripers on my lake but we have hybrids and white bass. I have caught 50+ hybrids bigger than 5 lbs on one spook and it still walks perfectly! The only problem is that the trebles have chipped away the paint. I have never changed the hooks or anything. And I usually tie a Palomer knot straight to the bait ad have no problem walking it.

I'm referring to a DuoLock snap that I use for all my hardbaits.

I just tied straight on to the spook. My buddy caught a 4Lb 14oz on one last week in 120 of water. He also caught 3 more around 3lbs in the spot! it was crazy!

Neither do the white bass, I caught my first double on it a few weekends ago!

I like using the Rapala Knot - super quick and easy, plus it offers a great action.

Depending on the situation, I use either a snap, or a palomar knot. When using a direct tie, you might do well to leave the knot just a tad loose to allow for better movement.
