Topwater on Prettyboy
« on: June 11, 2012, 10:13:16 AM »

Fished Prettyboy yesterday.  Water temp started at 74 and was 76 by the time I left.  Yesterday was by far the best topwater bite I have ever had in 20+ years of fishing there.  I was fishing deep, 30+ ft of water.  I saw all these fish hitting top water in the middle of nothing and figuered I would try it, glad I did.  Also learned something new.  It was pretty cool to see those fish skyrock from the depths and slam that lure.  Both smallies and largemouth were nailing a little torpeedo I was using.  Caught 9, 1-2.25# in less than an hour, largemouth being the biggest.  I switched to a KVD crank and a soft plastic after that and caught a few more but nothing like the topwater bite early.  The bite seemed to die off around 9:30.  Good fishing

Thanks for the report. Last year I saw a bunch of birds breaking over a area out in deeper water too. My saltwater instincts clicked in so I went over there and started to fish it but then all the birds left so I guess I was just too late.
