Power poles...
« on: June 15, 2012, 01:42:57 PM »

For this of you who have a power pole, do you like them?  I am looking at a boat with one.  I don't care if it had the pole or not but it does not upset me that is is on the boat. It is only a 6ft pole but I am not complaining!

I absolutely love mine. When they first came out I wondered about how often I would use them and if it could offset the cost. OMG has it. I use them all the time, from launching at the dock to controlling the boat in the wind, to setting up for the perfect cast.

I have wrote about them a couple of times here is what I was thinking before I bought them

And after using them

After using one, my next rig will have two on it. Absolutely one of the best things money can put on your boat. Not killing your TM batteries in high winds is one of the HUGE benefits. I have an 8' Pro and love it.

I have a Minn Kota Talon and love it.  The only problem with it is that I don't have 2 of them.....yet.

I also wondered how much I would actually use it and if it would be worth the expense.  Well, it is.

I use it in the shallows to keep from blowing into my spot.  To hold my boat when we sit to grab a bit to eat or drink.  To "anchor" my boat at a dock when my buddy gets stuck on it some how.

There is probably a dozen other ways to use it.  This "off season", I will purchase a new one and start next spring with 2.

When you mount one, does it have to be mounted to a jackplate?
I have always seen them mounted that way but I don't have one on the boat I bought.

No.
If you have a flat transom like on a tin boat, then you'll be able to mount it/them direct to the boat. If your boat transom is shaped my Triton's where it's impossible to mount direct to the transom then you'll need a special bracket.
The bracket will go between your motor and boat transom, and you'll get a spacer for the other side.

Best thing you can do is contact Rich at Hydrilla gear and he'll answer ALL your questions easily as he did for me.
