All you have to do is plug in the reader to a USB port and put in the chip and thats it. Takes while to download it ,but well worth it.

I gave them the serial # on the card and they said my card is too old to be upgradeable.
They are having me send it in (on my dime) and they are shipping me a new upgradeable card (on their dime).
They wanted my sales receipt e-mailed to them to start the process and I sent it today. I'm waiting on instructions from them now.
I had the card switched to "unlocked" when trying to update it by the way.

The Lock/Unlock feature is just a Mechanical lock to keep your Mini SD card from falling out of the SD card.. It has absolutly zero to do with data tranfer.

I have 5 SanDisk microSD card adaptors, none of them lock the microSD card in and all of them write protect the microSD card when in the down position.
The Navionics microSD adaptor I have does not lock in the Hotmaps microSD card either and adds no tension to the microSD card. Mine is too old for the update program. I am not going to try to write anything to it to see if it is write protected with the tab in the down position. I would guess it is the same as my other ones.
