Caddo Lake Bass Fishing Report: July

Water temps are ranging from 78-85 and the lake is at normal levels but rising with recent rains. Early in the day small topwaters like pop r's and torpedo's fished along the boat docks in the river channel above Uncertain have been working well. With the water on the rise try fishing a white/chartreuse or white/blue spinnerbait in the current around the cypress and grassbeds. Most of our bites have been coming on dark colored senko and fluke type baits fished in and over the grass. Weedless frogs over the heavy vegetation and flukes and worms around the scattered vegetation have worked over the past few weeks also. White bass are running in the Buzzards Bay and Little Green Break areas and can be caught using rattletraps and spinnerbaits in colors of white or chrome.

    Tim's Ford 7-9-2007

Tim's Ford Bass Fishing ReportsThe happy man in the pictures above is TBGI guide Jon Simmons. Jon and I don't get to fish together very much but when we do we normally have a decent day and today was no exception.. July 9-2007 Tim's Ford clear water and 95 degrees, minimal cloud cover a zero winds. Not the best over all conditions but I have several spots that has been good to me over the past weeks and with a little persistence we managed to hoist 12 Smallmouth, 6 Largemouth and 4 Spots into the boat. The majority of the fish were caught on a Prowler Soft Shad www.prowlerlures.com dipped in JJ's Magic Chartreuse and Clear dippin dye www.jjsmagic.com We also caught fish on a jig and a crank bait, but the Soft Shad was the best. I have scattered dates available through the end of August....give me a call...Tim's is a great lake.....Rick Mcferrin www.tennesseebassguides.com

    Old Hickory 6-15-2007

I fished today with James Jackson of Madison Tennessee on Old Hickory Lake. We caught several fish early on crank baits then switched over to a Carolina Rig and explored multiple drop and ledges in the lower end. We had a great time and I was able to show James a lot of new areas on the lake that he had never fished before. Right now you can catch a lot of fish in shallow water but for me my best fish came on the ledges and drops in 10 to 15 feet of water. I have a few scattered dates open this summer, give us a call and we will be happy to help .

    Percy Priest 6-16-2007

This week i fished Wednesday and Saturday night with mixed results averaging 15 fish per night, with a limit of keepers each night. This week I had the pleasure of fishing with Caleb and Tim Tidwell, 2 brothers from Murfreesboro Tennessee. Tim and Caleb both wanted to explore and learn more about how to read structure on their graphs and maps. We started around 7Pm and began fishing the drop offs, ledges and humps. Water temp was around 84.3 degrees. We fished some areas with little luck during daylight but when we back tracked on some of these areas after dark things changed. We caught almost 2 solid limits of 2lb /2 1/4 lb fish on Prowler Soft Plastics. www.prowlerlures.com Total fish for the night was around 23. I had a great time with Caleb and Tim and look forward to our next trip. I will be on the Cumberland River this week and will post my resul ts as I get them. Till next time...

    Stream smallmouth 6-25-2007

This report is for the last few weeks. Here in Tennessee we are in bad need of rain and our streams are very low. Fishing has been the best from 4PM to just after dark. Daylight to about 4:00pm has been slow lately. Creek minnows are your best bet and if you haven't tried them the Case Jacks Worm in 4 and 6 inch sizes are working well in darker colors. I fish these weightless and as slow as possible. I'm throwing to the deepest sections that have current and you may have to cast 8-10 times to the same spot before you get a hit. Even with the water being low we have had some great afternoons in the last few weeks. The pictures above are typical of the Smallmouth we have been catching. We have been averaging 15 Smallmouth and several Rock Bass and Largemouth every trip. If your hitting the streams spend your time in the deeper holes and fish just past dark.

Bass Fishing in June & Early July On Crow Lake

    North Western Ontario, Canada

Crow Lake bass come to the shallows near mid June mid July. These bass are fantastic to fish. You can site fish them. The smallies are territorial and will frequent they same structure each season for the most part. Deeper logs, shallow rocks, beaver houses, all adjacent to bedding area's. When the bass first make there way into the shallows you will not immediately find them around any particular structure. They will be just cruising. At this time you can catch up to 10 bass per day averaging 3'-5', all females. When they have made their nests the males will be in the shallows. It is not uncommon to catch over 100 bass per day. Soft plastics are the lure of choice.

Lake of the woods has some great smallmouth fishing as well. The fact that this lake offers walleye, crappie and some excellent northern pike fishing may out weigh the great bass fishing on Crow Lake. When fishing Lake Of The Woods for smallies, the fishing is not much different in how you fish smallies in other stained water lakes. Although other lakes such as Rainy Lake and small noname lakes are better bass producers.

Crow Lake, because of its crystal clear water, makes the bass fishing unique. This is mainly for the fact of site fishing. Smallmouth are easier to catch late June and early July for the fact that they are shallow and noticeable. Early August and beyond is probably the best time to catch schooled smallies in Crow Lake. Same numbers of bass caught but more concentrated fishing holes. They are territorial in all respects, nesting and schooled locations. I find them in Sept. on deep drop offs were i found them 25 years ago.

Crow Lake can be a more difficult catch to the inexperienced fisherman than the stained water lakes because the bass are more aware and can be more easily spooked.

I've also noticed over the years that one end of the lake will have smallies shallow were as the other end will have the smallmouth undertaking a different faze or transition.

Hello, and thank you for visiting El Grande Lures. I have been fishing those famed Mexican lakes everyone sees on television and reads about for a number of years. In my first visits to some of these lakes, I read the current fishing reports and bought whatever they said they were biting on at the time. Without fail, the bite would change before I got there. Through process of elimination, I have come up with a list of proven baits and colors that always seem to be productive no matter what conditions face you. The baits offered on this site are designed and made by me. I take great pride in making these lures and I am very confident in their abiilty to catch fish. Please feel free to call or send me an email with any questions you may have prior to your trip to Mexico.
