Well it's that time again. Time for the weekly update on the "big G"!! I can some it up in two words, It's Hot!!!! I have had some great trips with super clients. Every trip has produced some typical Guntersville toads But the numbers bite has been good to my clients. Each trip has produced numbers over double digits with several fish over the 5lb class. I know this does not seam to be great but given how the year has been slow and the bite even slower 10+ fish a day is a good pick up from the last month.
The go to baits for us this week was the Tiki Stick rigged weightless with a 5/0 gammy hook and 17lb floro line. I have tried some new tactics while the clients fished which have also produced a couple of good bites. These include tossing the 10 inch ribbon tail rigged with a 1/8th oz bullet head swimming it just above the grass tops and my favorite the CRANKBAIT.. Toss it in there and roll it down to the grass and let it hang up, then just shake it till the fish knock it off for you.LOL I also have had good bites on the Choo-Choo mint Julip spinnerbait which has just been released for sale to the public. I used a 3/4 oz with a #5 single blade in gold. Most colors were: (plastics) everything you throw at them, We tossed watermelon/red, blk/blue, green pumpkin, Mardi, Christmas tree and black. Cranks were: "lake guntersville special" chart/blue back, red craw, Tenn. Shad Spinnerbait: chart/wht, and mint julip both with gold blades. I look for the bite to get better and the numbers and size to come together in the up coming weeks. Also the top water bite should be AWSOME in the next few weeks. As many of you know when the top water starts get out those flipping sticks and tie on the jig. Go to the main ledge and just start flipping grass. Just remember stay with it you could flip 3 miles before the bite but when you get one you can catch 10 in the same spot in a row. I would also like to say thanks to everyone for the e-mails and referrals. Can't wait to see everyone at the Dale Hollow Rally and put a face with a name. Have a great time on the water and take a kid fishing. See you on the water soon. Chris Jackson Fins-N-Grins Fishing |
