Clay Welch - First Bass of the Day
Clay Welch - First Bass of the Day
Tim's Ford, Tennessee 6-7-2006

I fished Tim's Ford today with the father and son team of Mr. Jack and Clay Welch. The action got started out quickly this morning on top water. Clay put the first good Smallmouth in the boat, on a Secret Weapon Buzz-R  bait. This fish was chasing shad and made the mistake of getting within Clay's range. Clay made a perfect cast and about 4 cranks later it sounded like a bowling ball had fallen out of the sky. It wasn't long before it was safely in the net and you can tell by Clay's expression he was one happy young man.

Two or three others came on top water within the first 90 minutes or so and then all surface activity disappeared. The sun got up high and the water surface temperature reached almost 80 degrees. For the day jack-Clay and I put 11 total in the boat all on either the buzz bait or a deep diving crank bait.  We tossed  worms-jigs-whirly'bs and grubs with no takers. I talked with some Wildlife Officers at the ramp when we came back in that had been out shocking fish. They told me that the oxygen levels are already at zero below 15 feet deep.  This was the same scenario that we were faced with last year but it came later in the summer if my memory is right. Something to think about on your next trip to Tim's. Hope this will help you.
