Upper Chesapeake Bay & Susquehanna Flats Fishing Report

I continued my quest for un-pressured bass this week on the Eastern Shore and I think that it was a good choice, as we found some good quality bass still on the beds and not a hook mark on them. You don’t need to fish any special secret spot just look for and fish areas that you may not normally fish; we are fishing in 1 to 3 feet of water. The bite is the most aggressive during the moving tide. We are fishing a variety of cover & structure; Grass, Wood Laydowns, Lilly Pads.

The best producing baits for us this week have been; Case Plastics Sweet P’s in the Roadkill color with the paddle dipped in Chartreuse dip-in-dye, rigged on a ¼ ounce Dave’s Tournament Tackle Spot Hopper jig head. The ¼ ounce ChatterBait is earning it’s keep this week also in the Black & Blue color (the only problem is my ChatterBaits are starting to show signs of wear the skirts & plastic trailers are sliding down the hook easily but I am applying one drop of the Pro’s-Soft Bait Glue to fix this problem). The best producing bait of them all this week is a 4 inch Ketchum Baits ring worm, I refer to this worm as my Eastern Shore color worm (it is a pumpkinseed colored body with gold flake and a Chartreuse flake tail) the bad news is when I went to order some more of them this week it seems that they are discontinued, so I have been using my Pro’s Soft-Bait Glue to repair them to try and conserve the ones I have left.

I am marinating all of my plastics in the Garlic flavored Carolina Lunker Sauce and applying the Sauce each time we handle the bait. Fish slowly the bite is very soft one day and much more aggressive the next.
