Well all is well from Fork since the McDonalds Tournament has left. The fishing looked to be a little tough this year. It seemed like the deep water bite would have been hard to get to with such high winds.  I am back from my few day vacation and it seems that the fish have got back to the same pattern as before the mess. This report will be about the same since most of the fishing I’m  doing is the same. There will be small changes with colors and an extra bait or two. Look for fish stacking up on main lake points and banks with grass. Most good grass on the points will be going out to the 8 foot range. The grass lines and over the grass is where most of the better fishing will occur. The best bait for me has bee a Lake Fork Tackle Twitch Worm or Zoom Trick Worm in red bug, june bug,  or any shade of watermelon or green pumpkin (watermelon/red, green pumpkin/blue, green pumpkin/blue, watermelon/green, etc) rigged on a drop shot wacky style. I will be rigging up on a 7 foot med. action rod, 12lb line, a number 1 hook, and an eighteen inch leader in-between the hook and weight. Depending on how thick the grass will determine the size drop shot weight to use. For throwing over the grass I will use a 1/16th to 1/8th ounce weight. On the outside edges of the grass I have been throwing a 3/8th ounce weight. I have been shaking the baits pretty hard but keeping the weight on the bottom. Watch out because the bites have been vicious.  For some of those slow big bass try fishing the same worms such as the Twitch Worm or Trick Worm rigged wacky style with no weight. Throw these worms into the grass located in 4 foot and work it back with erratic twitches and long pauses. Look for the fish to pick it up and start swimming with it as it lays there doing nothing. I will rig this set up on the same out fit as the drop shot set up, as far as line and rod. Another good bait has been a Bandit 100 in chart/black or in a shad pattern cranked in and out of the grass.  When you get stuck in the grass give it a good rip and when it comes out is when most bites have occurred.

If your looking for a monster shallow bass pick up your half ounce Strike Works Wood Jig on 50lb braid and pick apart every tree lining the creek channel edges in 3-12 feet. My best color will be a black/blue/purple with a june bug or black/blue colored craw or chunk for Gary Yamamoto or Lake Fork Tackle. Don’t forget about a watermelon/red or watermelon/candy  half ounce Strike Works Jig  with a matching trailer on the bright sunny days when the dark color shuts down.

Deep water has been staying hot lately. My number one tool has once again been a drop shot rigged the same way as in shallow water with the 3/8th ounce weight. My best colors in the Lake Fork Twitch Worm and Zoom Trick Worm have been a red bug, june bug, or any shade of watermelon or green pumpkin (watermelon/red, green pumpkin/blue, green pumpkin/blue, watermelon/green, etc). I have been working these baits with hard shakes and short pauses just like in shallow water and again the bites have been very hard and easy to tell when you get a bite. . Look for the deeper fish holding on humps, ridges, pond dams, drop offs, and main lake points in 15 to 22 feet of water. Look around as I have caught a few schools of fishing holding out to 30 feet deep.  The Carolina rig bite has been off and on with some great days carolina rigging a pearl or watermelon/red Zoom Super Flukes, green pumpkin Lake Fork Twitch worms, and a Gary Yamamoto 5 inch hula grub in watermelon. Rig these baits on a hvy action rod, with 20lb main and leader line, a 7 foot leader, and a 4/0 hook for some great results. I am fishing the rig in the same areas and same schools of fish where I’m throwing the drop shot.
