Introducing the MAX™ series low profile baitcast reels from Abu Garcia®. The vintage names; Pro MAX™, Silver MAX™, and Black MAX™ that bring back visions of hefty limits of largemouth bass and walleye. When a day of fishing meant pre-dawn cross lake excursions, weary arms and sunburn necks, topwater heart stopping excitement, and the powerful Texas rig hook set, the MAX™ series of low profile baitcasters merit the names so linked with the best that fishing has to offer. No corners cut on these reels. Swedish engineering, MagTrax™ brakes, Duragear™ brass gears, 6.2:1 high speed retrieve, cam lock, ADS (anti-distortion) wiffle spool, instant anti-reverse, flipping switch, and the Abu Garcia® name that anglers around the world trust to meet their fishing needs.

I bought a black max a couple years ago from a local wal mart. I have no problems with this reel so far, it casts smooth and backlashes are minimal and usually my fault. I would recommend this reel to those looking for a good quality affordable reel.

I've had 3 of the Pro Max's for just over a year now and think that they are an awesome mid/lower priced reel. Fishing Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn, Calcasieu River and Sabine River they all perform well in every situation I put them in. My biggest concern before buying them was the fact that I primarily use braid and didn't know if they would withstand the shock over time. Well, time has proven, that they can and I truly enjoy using them.

I bought a couple Silver Maxs at Walmart when I saw them for 60 bucks. Overall the reels are good. Casting isn't a problem and they are comfortable in your hand. Only thing I see coming up is after about a year of use gears start to slip on bigger fish. All in all a good choice for a cheap baitcaster.
