Hey son "this is not a bribe, but if you come visit you can have the .357"....

So I made a swing through Missouri to visit dad after the rally at G-ville.

Box says it's a Highway Patrolman Revolver model 28

This is the gun I grew up target shooting with... Well I started with a .22 and worked my way to this one.

It's got a lot of sentimental value, however I can't wait to take it to the range for some paper killing

It looks to be in great condition. Your dad obviously takes care of his things. With a new (to you) gun like that don't show them paper people any mercy.  lo

I bet your Dad enjoyed all of you visiting. I remember seeing those big guns on Policemen when I was kid.  I'm sure you will cherish this gift.

Mike Cork

Cherish is probably and understatement... Dad and I killed a lot of tin cans and used it as a back up when big game hunting as a kid. Lots of memories wrapped up in this weapon...

Sweet Deal!

That caliber is one I've always wanted, yet have to own.

Is that a S&W? looks like their design but not sure if it theirs or a Ruger.

Mike Cork

Yes sir it's a S&W, back then dad won't own anything else. Now he has one Ruger, his conceal carry weapon.

On second thought that did seem to me to be a bribe. A very good one I will say. It worked he knew your weak spot.  lo

Our State Troopers carried them for decades and they were feared for how powerful they were, not many would argue with the Trooper. Now the carry 9mm.

Have to cherish those guns with sentimental value.  I remember how happy I was when my grandpa gave me his 30.06 deer rifle.  That is until I realized that that meant he was giving up hunting and would not be hunting with us that year.   :'(

Once I made that realization, I offered to give it back but he said he couldn't take the cold anymore and didn't want to kill anything anymore.

This is the part of gun ownership that the anti gun lobby just doesn't get.

I spent many 40* and rainy November and December days in the swamps of Eastern NC with my grandfather and his 1100.

My grandmother insisted I have it when he passed. That pissed off a bunch of my relatives but since she still carried a 38 in her from apron pocket (just in case she ran across a critter), no one argued with her.

My kids learned to shoot it and it is still my daughter's favorite long gun when when go kill some clay birds nearly every Black Friday.

The rest of the year it stands proudly in the cabinet and will be passed down when I'm gone.

Congrats Mike on temporarily owning a piece of family history.

A very nice gun,sort of a plain-jane model 27. I'm a fan of the .357,a very versatile chambering.
Enjoy yourself now,for you'll be a long time dead.
