B.A.S.S. Federation Nation Of New Jersey Elk Neck State Park Tournament

Hey Guys,
Well it's been along winter indeed....I fished a small Union Lake
Open Buddy Tournament on March 24th and came in a respectable 4th
place and just missed a check they were paying out to 3rd place. My
bag was small at 12.45 but tough North winds put the fish down and
we threw Gulp Wacky Crawlers at them on a shakey head jig....I went
back to the spot the next day for a club tournament and caught 4
shorts no keepers...The winds shifted overnight and put the fish on
the other side of the island where a buddy of mine took first place
50 yards away from me....That's fishing though!
On the bright side we conducted our first tournament of the season
for the B.A.S.S. Federation Nation Of New Jersey at Elk Neck State
Park, Maryland. The day was beautiful but post-frontal with bluebird
skies and a 5 to 10 MPH wind out of the SW. The water temps were
alittle chilly at 49 degrees with the highest being 56 degrees.
Also, the water was murky at best with less the 12 inches of
visibilty. That put me on the jig and plastic trailer and also a
spinnerbait and a lipless crankbait. It would be the lipless
crankbait fished over early emerging grass beds ripped through the
weeds to produce the fish. I managed 10 fish all day but only three
keepers with the best fish pushing 4.5 lbs. When I got back to the
launch and weighed in I was pleasantly suprised with the VICTORY...!
I took first place with 9.44 lbs and a small check on the co angler
side and was also granted first place points of 200 to take an early
lead in the standings. Top three co anglers go on to fish the
divisional next season so I'm looking to stay on top...because this
is the road to the classic...It's a long road but I'm going to make
a go at it...! My next tournament is June 3rd at Candlewood Lake in
Conneticut...This is one of my favorites for BIG SMALLMOUTHS...!
