Unauthorized Fishing Tournament Activity
Report provided by IDNR Officer Johnson regarding an unauthorized fishing tournament being conducted on Lake Waveland without a Lake Waveland Permit on July 10th 2011, the boats involved are registered to: Dennis Kinderman of Dana IN, Louis Faller of Hillsdale IN, Robert Rusk of Rockville IN, and Mark Ritchey of Rockville IN. The name of the club they gave to Officer Johnson was "Parke County Bassmasters" In the report the officer said they were "weighing in" at the north end of the lake, weighing their fish in a boat on the lake.
In the fall of 2010 Lake Waveland instituted a Fishing Tournament Permit Program for the 2011 season to preserve the fishery and keep the lake safe for all the various users of the lake. For the most part voluntary cooperation has been good because most people understand the importance of managing the fishing pressure on this 360 acre lake. Every now and then we have had a few selfish people that don't care about the fishery or the other users of the lake and sneak around and have their tournament and then lie about it. The tournament permitting program is not intended to punish anyone or to keep anyone from fishing, it's not about "Us" it's about protecting this awesome natural resource so it remains the "Jewel" of Indiana where an organization or club can come to fish and bring 25 limits to the scale and it will take over 17 pounds to win a tournament.
The Fishing Tournament Permit drawing date for the 2012 season will be announce soon. The event will be held at the Waveland Town Hall next to the Fire Station. Permits are $25 for each date. Date drawing order is determined be a random number drawing when you register your group or organization the day of the drawing.
