I'm in the market for a new hand crank boat winch. Suggestions? Would like something that cranks pretty easy.

Fulton's enough said. They are awesome and easy to winch.

Do you need one or are you replacing the old one before it fails? How long do winches normally last?

Back in the wild west day I assume by watching old cowboy movies a winch lasted anywhere from 20 to 30 yrs. As for the one on my trailer its almost 20 yrs old. Has a couple of teeth missing. so Im going to replace this year. I assume its like anything else, get what you pay for.

I had to replace mine after 16 years. Same reason, a lot of teeth were missing.

Don't go cheap and don't go undersized. You'll be much better off with oversize than under, also dual gears can be smoother than single.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.

True... and I have a little tin boat, so this particular model suits the bill great.

Would that model be suitable for a 99 PT175?

It appears so. PT 175's are 1050lbs and the winch is rated for 1400lbs.
