I love that old Diawa Pro Lite! That was my first baitcaster back in the day! I bet I caught a million bass on that thing. It was still running strong when I got rid of it. What is the model? I think that mine was a 1500 or something like that.

Here is my Abu Garcia Revo SX Gen 1

I just finished spraying it Galaxy Black. It is running a purple 5mm Avail micro cast spool, black Avail drag star, Purple Hedgehog Studio level wind shaft, Pink Hedgehog Studio line guide cap, 102 mm Hawgtech swept handle with Shimano Septon knobs and blue end caps, and a blue handle nut cover.

Interesting color combo. It actually works really well. Did you spray it or did tou have it done. I bet a body shop would spray a reel for next to nothing. If you did the prep work ofcourse

Some good looking reels in this thread, and nice job on the ABU rebuild, the 1st and 2nd Gen Revo's were very nice reels.   I have a few reels that I will share when I get a minute or two.

Nice rigs Rock.  I just bought a couple bundles of some thinner stuff on clearance to use as insert panels for cabinets.  It ended up being cheaper per board foot than plywood.

Ones a 6:1 Curado other a 7:1 Citica. They feel great and palm well but don't cast very good. With a 7'4 Rod I should be able to send a Keitech on a 1/2oz head to the next lake over. I stripped them both completely down flushed and re oiled the bearings and added some bearings to the knobs. Ehh I'm gonna be selling them. . .

Side note my talk about going all Daiwa, I think I am definitely gonna do it. Was throwing a 1.0 strike king square bill all weekend on the Fury 705CB and Tatula. With 14lb mono and that thing was chucking it a mile. Once the new Steez comes out and Zillion HLC I'm gonna start the buy and sell process.

Yeah, I always disliked that the stock guide was so big and had a gold accent to it.  I picked up a couple of these guides and really like the way they look and they work perfect.

Thank You, I agree the the SV105 is a nice reel, it is really a Sol with an SV spool, so you know it is going to be a nice one.    I purchased the chess set when I was deployed to the desert, it is all hand carved pieces.  I do play some, not that good, it was originally purchased as a gift that I never had the chance to deliver.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty pleased with it myself!

LMG, I also sent them a cast control cap for that Met and a bunch of TD-Z parts. The CC cap came back and I can barely thread it onto the reel, it'd need a pair of pliers to get it down to where it actually does something. And I'm not cross threading it, I checked! Makes me wonder if they sandblast parts to remove the old finish and damaged the threads? The inside felt a little gritty.
The TD-Z parts look good for the most part except one which has a bunch of weird dark spots all over it.
Mixed feelings.  ::)

Put this littke duo together for a picture. TD Zillion with the 6.8 gears and gold PE spool does wonders casting a swim jig. Rock said the 843 MBR should do great with the 3/8oz swim jigs he made me.

Took the 8.0 Super Duty and mounted it on the Dobyns Fury 734 to serve as a pitching rig for now. 1/2-3/4oz weight and a skirt should be ok. I figure around Christmas time Ill get me a new rod for the Super Duty. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171103/8e0671bdbf8165da3f039c331eb74cef.jpg)

When im unhooking a fish I just dont lay the reel on its top. I make sure its either upright, like you see in the picture, or the rod is leaned on the deck. I always put the cover back on the reel when not in use. This particular reel has seen 4 years of good use, and is still spotless. I take very good care of my equipment.

keeping a cover on them goes a long way, and spacing them out when they are on the deck helps too.

Had to take the imitation Avail handle off the Curado50E. One hookset on a fish up at Tims Ford, and the handle was bending. Note to self, $30 handle is a waste of money. On goes the Aldebaran MG handle and some gold accents.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171107/0303de82030772c3f927cc9dac699ae2.jpg)

Same here.  Learned the hard way.  Got lazy and left the covers off my reels when we moved a short distance to another lake.  Wouldn't you know it.  Nothing happened to the $50 reel, but my mint Chronarch 101A got some nice boat rash.  Now a cover goes on the reel being put down every time I pick up a different one to use.  Takes a few seconds, but well worth it in my book.

Well, this will be an ugly one compared to all ya'lls, but it is what it is.

I've been working on insurance for my bass boast "project". My homeowners insurance gal said she needed a "representative" account of the tackle that I'll have on board at any given time. Hmmm. So I did some stackin' in the rod box and figured I can carry just about thirty rod and reel combos (plus about 1000 pounds of tackle, but that's a whole 'nother story).

She said she needed a picture or three too. So now I'm gonna show and tell with ya'll. Make fun. Call me old. I don't care. These old "round" reels have served me well (the spinning stuff is a lot newer)-

(https://www.ultimatebass.com/bass-fishing-forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi12.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa236%2Farrowguy%2Frods%2520001.jpg&hash=edd3c3083d79155c3f20a7a2cb63b8bffd0008f6) (http://s12.photobucket.com/user/arrowguy/media/rods%20001.jpg.html)

For you young 'uns, the strange handle on this rod is called a "pistol grip". It's what we had years back, and of course I still use 'em-

(https://www.ultimatebass.com/bass-fishing-forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi12.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa236%2Farrowguy%2Frods%2520002.jpg&hash=2de0fa7abc79af7018d5a8c50a54f802e4a8e9d8) (http://s12.photobucket.com/user/arrowguy/media/rods%20002.jpg.html)

Most of my Ambassaduers are pretty old- this warrior is a 1978 model, and I still use it hard. I believe it's had one worm gear and one pawl replaced in it's lifetime-

(https://www.ultimatebass.com/bass-fishing-forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi12.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa236%2Farrowguy%2Frods%2520003.jpg&hash=1b9fb8137176d02c0cd3040a67c76a68c00063df) (http://s12.photobucket.com/user/arrowguy/media/rods%20003.jpg.html)

These are all 4600C's. They're heavy at ten ounces. I love 'em. I own four low-profile reels, and only one of them is newer.

Go ahead. Poke some fun. I own about 40 more that aren't in this picture. Some things you just don't mess with!

D.W., some of us young 'uns were actually brought up with some class.
Top, L-R
The Frankenreel. 6500C High Speed on a 5000C frame with a 5500C left plate, 6'6" Ugly Stik. No idea the age of the base reel, but it has the 4.66 gears.
My Pride and Joy, mid 90's 5000 with it's new frame and back in service.
Newest member of the fam, Curado K 200XG, currently in a tie as my favorite.

Bottom row
1963 Ambassadeur 5000. All it needs is a handle and some drag washers, just ain't got around to ordering them yet.
5500C3, not sure the age, late 80's to early 90's I reckon. 5.4 ratio, same as the 5000 up top.
4600 Royal Express, 6.7 ratio I think.

I bought the first 5000 new with my first after school job, the Curado just a couple weeks ago. The rest were picked up in pawn shops, junk stores, and the 1963 came from another member here on UB.

Didn't feel like going out to the car to get the other ones.

D.W., you wouldn't happen to be in the market for another 4600 would ya? My thumb's too wide for it.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171123/4a187aa0311a143bf2b30a1ef8195039.jpg)

PM me the details... mayyyybbbbeeeeeeee.

I also own numerous older 5500's, and one black 5000C. At almost a pound they get pretty heavy.

Dale those older ABU reels that were actually made in Sweden will last you forever and a day. I have a couple in my closet and I still have one that I use on a semi-regular basis. Still like my pistol grips too, especially for roll-casting to specific targets at short distances.

And judging from the pics of the HAWGS you've been posting I don't think anybody is going to be laughing.  ;) ~shade

Yep, that "Made in Sweden" is what counts. These newer asian made ones seem nice, but after using a Swedish Abu for years you can tell the difference as soon as you pick one up.
My handful are all Swedish. I wanted the new Catfish Special until I handled one. I wouldn't spit on 'em.

Dale, have you checked out Don Iovino's site, your jaw will hit the floor when you see what he's getting for those old Abus.

No I haven't- good, or bad? I bought a few on eBay last year (Tackle Monkey bites me too, 'cuz I already owned a ton of 'em), and never paid more than $40 w/shipping. And I got some DANDIES, too.

I own two of the Black Max's from maybe 2004-2005. The level wind went out of one of them pretty quick (I probably uses it twenty times), the other one is a little rough. I know theses are cheaper reels, but still.

Yep. I totally agree. Quite pricey! The old Abu round reels have been a constant good flip reel for me over the years. I can buy them cheap and I can usually count on selling them quickly for about $50 each. I don't use them, but I sure will flip them as often as I can and make a few bucks to put towards those products I do use.

I went and checked out that Don Iovino website and he sure is old school! He is still selling a VHS tape! Or trying to sell a VHS tape. I thought those things went out with the buggy whip long ago???

He does a very nice job on the reel restorations, but at those prices the reels are turned into display pieces rather than fishing tools.

I see the same thing on the timeless shimano website for their older obsolete reels... I bet sales are real slow...

I count at least 6 Berkley shock rods in there and at least 4 Skeet Reese rods that I can see- if I am right in my identifications.

I have some of both myself. And I still have quite a few pistol grip rods I grew up using including some top of the line Shimano pistol grip rods and rare boron rods. I still use them from time to time.

You would be correct, 'Fool. So many of my old rods need repair- the blanks are still fine, but oh, my. How did so many guides and tips get destroyed with the rods just sittin'???

I was sponsored by Falcon in the day, and I have some of them that I like a lot. Looks like some projects for this winter. On the other hand, some of these new rods are terrible light. Helps offset those ten-ounce round reels!

Those Berkley Lighnting Rods are good value for the money, and the Reese Crank bait poles were on sale for $49 each- I bought all they had (6). I've bought two Okuma Scott Martin Mat Daddy rods that are decent for the money.

It's all good. 'Specially if I get to use them tomorrow.

Now that is a story I would like to hear. I am a big fan of Falcon rods and a small time collector of them, well, nowadays only their still made in America rods. I won't buy any made in China Falcon rods, but I do love my Bucoo Micro series rods made in America by Falcon. Extremely lightweight and super sensitive thin-wall rods. Some of my favorite prized rods.

So tell us the story about you and Falcon???

A decent price on those Skeet Reese rods. I still have one brute of a rod I use for frogging, the 7'2" model- the Tessera Senko Toad model. Its a beast for sure. Great for snatchin' big ole bass out of heavy cover- and tree stumps.

And for those Berkley lightning rods... we go way back. I have been using them since I was a teenager buying my own gear. And like you said they are a good value for the low price they cost. Some say they are even better than those other brand $109.00 made in China rods with the big name on them!  ~shhh

Just yesterday I sold a brand new Berkley Shock rod to another member here for $20.00 just because I have too many rods and need to get rid of a few- and he is in the market for rods... I sold him a 6'6" medium one of my favorites too. Now I feel like I am missing something. :o But hey, if he does not like it I'll give him his $20 back!

Dale, you have quiet the collection of rod and reels there buddy.  From Jan 1973 > Jan 2009 my (25) reels were all Abu Garcia(Swedish made) Classic Round reels.  I had a Green 5000D and the rest were 5500C's.  With Arthritis setting in my wrist I got to where I couldn't grip the reels.  I gave them away and or sold everyone of them.  I up-graded to Abu Garcia Revo S > 2nd Generations; Abu Garcia Revo SX's,  ORRA SX and Abu Garcia Black Max's.   All of my rods are BPS Extreme Casting Rods (+) 2 Lee Smith Custom RodS.

Let's see...
The handle has been straightened and is now on my first Ambassadeur 5000, the red one.
The bearings are in my Caenan.
The drag washers are in something else.
The worm and pawl, spool, drag star, tension cap, and maybe a couple other parts are in a drawer waiting until/if I find a use for them. Maybe some springs too.
The magnets are on the refigerator.
Frame, side plates, gears, and several other parts have long since resided in a landfill.

Actually I can get them all in there. I can pretty easily get a spinning reel or two in with them. Rod Gloves or similar are a must they make in and out so easy. My locker isn't really that big but it is pretty deep.

I dont usually have but about 10 rods in the boat when its just me. So many are left at the house.

Can you get all yours in your locker? You have a awesome collection of rods.

You can only fish with one rod at a time.

Beware the angler with one fishin' pole.

I was sponsored by Falcon in the late nineties, strictly second-tier, thru my rep. I did test some of the first "Lowrider" series rods. That's about it, except I had some GREAT sponsors over the years.

I didn't know that Falcon was an overseas product now. When I got mine they came \out of Oklahoma.

Falcon is now about half still American made and the other half are now Chinese made. The rods not mentioned below are still made in America.

I just found the email from Falcon explaining which series of rods are now made in China:

"We do have four model series that are made overseas, yes. The HD, Coastal, Bucoo SR, and our Slab series.
