Title: irritating things
Post by: Bud Kennedy on December 11, 2017, 09:58:05 PM
1.  Customer service that does not service customers.

2.  While on hold  you have to listen to bad music that is interrupted by a voice that keeps asking you to keep holding because your call is important to them.  (Really?)

3.  Being transferred around a business and have to repeat your story each time

4.  Being transferred to a person who can help and all you get is voice mail that claims if you leave your number they will call you back but never do.

5.  Trying to complain about a product that does not work or does not work as described and the only thing they want to do is give you some more of the same product.

6.  Speaking to a person on the phone who most likely is much younger than yourself and you have no idea what they are saying because the speak at a very fast speed.  (What language is that anyway)

7.  Going to a local department store but can't find a check out register anywhere that is attended.

8.  Going to Walmart.  Does not matter for what or when, it is still irritating.  (Most likely the cause of shopping cart rage.)

9.  Unsubscribing from a spam advertisement but it still never stops

10.  Having to press 1 for english

11.  People who have moved to the South and complain that we don't do things they way they do back home.  (see ya)

I bet there are a lot of other things that you can add to this list.     ~c~ ~c~

*People that don't understand how a 4 way stop works.

*People that don't understand that the merge lane does NOT have right of way. You are merging into another lane. It is your job to slow down or speed up and enter the other lane successfully without causing an accident or traffic jam.

*Dump trucks loaded with rocks.

*The fisherman that keeps getting closer to where you are fishing because you caught a fish

*Parents that take their kid to the park and go to the lake. Walk the entire bank with their kid throwing huge rocks along the entire bank you were going to fish.

*Redundant posts on a forum

*When I go to an online or brick and mortar tackle store and they never have anything I'm looking for.

*When my dog can't figure out if she wants to be inside or outside. "Let me out dad" "ok let me back in" "wait no i want out" "you know I made a mistake I want to be inside I promise" "I lied...outside is wait wait wait. No I'm good in here thanks"

*Useless small talk. Like passing someone you know in the hall but aren't friends and they ask "Hi how are you?" You have to answer really fast "I'm good and you?" But honestly I don't care so why did I ask good and you? I've been conditioned.
I prefer a simple nod of the head and maybe fake a smile.

*High pitched sounds. Especially when it's a persons voice and they are so extremely loud and high pitched in close range of me.

*Most Holidays. Especially Christmas (because they have been commercialized so much it's all just a money grab.)

*Christmas music. Especially in the office for 8 hours. Someone turn that crap off before I rip out the speaker near me on the roof tile

.
That's a good one. I tell the person, "You have to speak slowly for me." They usually do.
.
Here's one -- Call a place, Person A answers, I ask to speak to Person B, and Person A asks if they can tell Person B who is calling them. Then you give your name to Person A and later Person B comes to the phone and says, "Hello, who's speaking please?" Last time someone said, "Can I tell them who is calling?" I replied, "No, I'll tell them myself." Boy that got a long silence. The above is an example of Person A just being nosy.

Stomping. There's tons more but Rick covered most of 'em.
I'm almost 260# and I can sneak up on a mouse on a wooden boat dock while wearing cowboy boots.
My son's about 150# and sounds like a herd of buffalo in the front yard while barefoot.

The opposite: dragging feet. When he ain't stompin, he's dragging.

I have caller ID. If it says, unknown number, invalid number or is from an area code such as 877, I don't pick up. All are risky. They only need a few words to copy your voice.

Same here.
But when not accepting the call it goes to VM and then you have to deal with deleting a VM that is nothing but a beep. Just irritating either way you look at it. lol

Go into a jiffy type store to get one item. Just as the cashier takes the item from your hand they turn and start a conversation with a fellow worker. "What day are you off next week?" "Sally has two days off?" "Have you heard from Billy?" Yeah, he comes in today at 4." That's when I say in a loud voice, "Can I please be waited on."

Yeah, hate that one too. Heard some guys in another public works department yammering over the radio about who left a tractor with an empty tank and why. Apparently those two departments were sharing it while one's tractor was in the shop.
I picked up my handset (which I do maybe 3 times a year), and told them "Those are great summaries of the problem, but have either of you grown azz men tried to think of a solution?"

We don't have illegals here either if you ask a certain demographic. (https://i.imgur.com/ViqhhZS.gif)

The facts don't change just because there was no legal authority making English the "official" language.

English has been the language recognized in this country since the white man took over. Id say its been official by default if nothing else since the constitution and all of our laws and legal documents are in English. Maybe next year we can try Spanish or Arabic and see how well the country reads a foreign language. (https://i.imgur.com/JOSnEhA.gif)

Steve, there are too many that speak English that can't understand English.  ~shade

It would be great to make it the official language. Then actually start teaching English again in the schools.

IMO, good communication is more important that language, and since the majority speak English, that's what folks should learn in order to communicate.

If folks are proud of their heritage & want to learn & use their native language, that's great. But we still use English as the primarily form of communication.  ~shade

My son's recently been using a lot of food puns. Don't know why. And they're really, really bad.
"It's just a yolk, don't take it so hard."
Crap like that. Everyone groans. He laughs hysterically.

Turned the tables on him last night.
"Enough with the food puns!..... they're really grating on my nerves."

Everyone stopped and stared at me like I recently arrived from another planet. A good 5 seconds of awkward silence went by.
Then
Teenage daughter: "I CAN'T FREAKIN EVEN RIGHT NOW!"
(what the heck does that mean anyway? Can't even what?)
Connie: "I'm going to the kitchen."
Junior: stares for another several seconds. Then almost laughed himself to death. Then stopped suddenly. Stared some more. Then got up and left the room.

Irritating thing...

When you work outside, it's 20°, you're not wearing your gloves because they're not waterproof and you're dealing with water spraying from frozen pipes and valves...
So your fingers feel like icicles...
So cold, they actually feel like they're burning...
Water is spraying on your face...
Tiny ice crystals starting to form in your beard...
Watching... hearing... so much water...
And all that spraying water suddenly induces the need for a standing head call. Dire emergency level. WILL embarrass yourself if this call of nature is not answered Immediately.

Ice cube fingers... noooooooo....

I'm getting some water proof gloves so I ain't gotta go through that crap again.

Seriously though, I'm getting old and I've got an old truck that takes awhile for the heat to kick in but I'm happy to have the heat. The AC isn't working but living where I do I far prefer to have the heat anyways.

I just keep telling myself that spring is only a few months away.  ~sun

Idiots who "passed" Math class thanks to common core, that then get jobs in anything to do with money. Sign said 4 burgers for 4 dollars. I ordered 4 and the girl (maybe 16 if that) says "That will be 10 dollars" "Uh...the sign says 4 for 4$, how is that 10$ ?" "Well they are 2 dollars a piece sir." "Ok, 2 times 4 is 8, not 10. Where does the extra 2 come from?" "You forgot about tax so 2x4 is 10..." WOW... this new generation truly is sad. Not to add to the stereo type but she was blonde.

Dude, I had to halfway climb through a Wendy's drive through window to teach a girl how to use the register.
It was her first day, and she told me everyone up until me had paid with cards. They're easy, swipe and get the receipt.

Worst part? I'd never operated a register once in my life up until then. Even back when I worked in a full service gas station, where we actually went out and pumped gas for the customers, we had a cash drawer and a key. Did the math to make change in our heads. And our credit card machine was a slider sort of thing that made an imprint on carbon copies.

Off topic but follows the ignorant people, mostly young, who don't know basic arithmetic. I stopped one morning to buy some shiners. I told the lady running the bait shop I wanted 3 dozen. She told a young girl, looked about 17, to dip the shiners for me. I paid and went to the tank with the girl. I asked her if she knew how many shiners were in 3 dozen. She said it was 38.

Folks, I don't think we need to blame the kids for their educational issues.  Today's methods and practices were created by our generation or our children generation.  Just take time to look at what these young people are being taught.  Some pretty sophisticated stuff that unfortunately does not relate a bunch to the work a day world unless they are going for advanced education in a technical discipline.  Today's young people are certainly not stupid but unfortunately many are very misguided.

A couple of time a year I am a guest lecturer at a local university.  The seminar is about being an entrepreneur.  I often am amazed about how naive so many of these young people are.  Their sense of street smart is non existent.  You should see some of the work they produce for their business plans.  Very few original ideas and most plans look like a copy and paste from google.

I'll tell you a little secret Rodney. Most of the people working and teaching there aren't all that bright either.

I worked as an accounting clerk and pre-auditor for Harvard University from 1981 - 1986. I constantly had to reject requests for funds or deny purchase orders from dept. heads because their math was so far off it bordered on the ridiculous. And try explaining to a PHD in the law department that you are not going to approve their $55,000 purchase order for a telescope.   ::)

Tell me about it. If these cash registers didn't scan the price and tell exactly how much change to give back they couldn't do their job. Id be willing to bet most cant properly count back your change. And I bet most cant balance a check book.

I have always thought our high schools were way off base. Back in my day we did have an elective that was the work program. Where you were actually taught a little bit about business stuff and things that actually 90% of the kids would actually use in their life.

Nothing was taught about how stocks and bonds actually worked. Oh yeah they spoke of them and gave you a definition. But actual knowledge of loans for like a home were never mentioned. Much less any in depth information about your credit and how the scoring works etc.

I could go on and on about the lack of practical knowledge that was never taught. You know the stuff most all the kids will need to know like about $. But by golly Geometry and Algebra were serious stuff. Sure some 2% of the population uses Geometry and Algebra in their daily lives.  ::) The rest of us may use it a hand full of times if that in our entire life. Yet we pay for 30 years or more on house notes, business loans, and work our entire life learning on the way about finances.

Its all ass backwards if you ask me they don't want intelligent kids. Why not give our kids actual knowledge to make them have a better chance of financial independence. This alone would help with MAGA

I understand what you're saying but as far as trucks going slow over speed bumps.

Truck suspension generally speaking is rated to haul cargo. So when empty it's quite stiff and when you have cargo it might be fragile/breakable needing some cautious driving. This stiff suspension also makes open containers dangerous. lo Just saying hitting the same speed bump in a truck vs a full size car is going to be quite a jolt in both but most likely worse in the truck. One main purpose of the cars suspension is to make your ride good not so much in trucks.

I will say my Z71 for a 4X4 does ride quite well but it's still not something I want to go flying over speed bumps with. I don't want every screw loose so it rattles all the time either. I bought it to help on bad roads from mud to icy conditions. Even old boat ramps that are basically eroded away and slick smooth ones as well. As well as to haul stuff. But when I'm not loaded I slow up for the bumps like everybody else that is what they were put there for right?

People trying to pass the buck...

One of our framing crews framed a gable wrong. It's supposed to be a false gable, which means it just sits on the finished roof. But they framed it as an open gable, meaning behind the gable there's a big hole into the attic.

The superintendent tried to say the set of plans he has (and the framer too) shows it being open...

SO I pulled up the set of construction drawings I produced. Says False gable on the front. And the roof plan shows the main roof rafters running under the gable.

Looked at the old set, shows the same thing.

Looked at the set before that, shows the same thing. (We had 4 revisions to plans, owner is a pain, but each set all show FALSE gable noted clearly on the elevation, and rafters running through on roof plan)

I even went back through all my preliminary plans, which they should NOT be building from, and all of them all say FALSE GABLE on the elevation, and show the rafters running through..

SO... I'm not sure what set of plans he thinks he has, but even if he has the wrong set, (which is impossible b/c we destroyed the old ones) They ALL show the correct gable layout.

So I don't know who dropped the ball, the super, or the framer, but it sure as heck WASNT the draftsman!!!!!  ~c~

People trying to pass the buck...
Once when building my own home (took me three years) I had the outside walls and roof on with concrete floor in the garage. I ordered 500 pre-cut 2x4's so i could start framing the interior walls. When I returned to the house the following week (I lived in another town) there was my bundle of pre-cuts in the garage. Closer inspection showed a 6 foot simi-circle crack on the front of my concrete slab directly under the pre-cut's. It was obvious the driver dumped one end of the lumber on the slab and then drove out from under the lumber causing it to smack down on the lip of the slab and crack it. At the back of the lumber was skid marks where the lumber slid off the truck. When I called the salesman he came out and looked. He agreed with my opinion and said the driver said the concrete was already cracked before he off-loaded the lumber. I then asked why would anyone drop lumber on cracked concrete. He just shook his head and said they would pay to have it cut out and re-poured. A case of the driver passing the buck.

Young people with no manners and no respect for their elders.

Most Fridays I have to stop at the grocery store on my way home and today was no different. After checking out I had to go to the customer service desk to get a money order. Ahead of me was a young 20 something year old guy who was already being helped by a man behind the counter. The lady behind the counter came over to me and got me what I needed. As I was waiting for the money order to print out I noticed the young guy in front of me had finished his business but he was just standing there in the middle of the aisle. My money order finishes printing, I take it and I start down the roped in aisle and say excuse me to the young idiot who is still just standing in the middle of the aisle staring at me and my cart full of groceries. He doesn't move or say anything but keeps staring at me. So I say excuse me again in a little more irritated tone of voice. No response. So I just went full steam at him with the cart. He got out of the way just enough for me to get by but I did manage to "accidentally" make contact as I squeezed past. He didn't say anything, but he looked at me with such disgust it made me mad.

Just another indication to me that a lot of kids are not being raised right anymore.  :P

We go through that with some of our display reels and combos. We did put the better reels in a display case this year to keep that from happening again. I did buy one of the Abu Garcia Revo 3 reels that someone did that to. New knob on the way to fix that one. Most of the other ones get sent back to the warehouse and written off I believe. I think we will try and do a bit more scrutiny of people inspecting the combos this year.

computers!!!!!!!!!!  ~xyz

Mine decided today was the day. I thought OK I have needed to clean mine for a while. So I take it and unplug all 900 wires. Go blow it out real good and happen to snag a fan blade and snap it off.  ^-^ Oh well its was a extra fan anyway so it will live without it. I get it back in my desk hook all 900 wires back up and turn it on. Ahh there she is all lit up welcoming me.  lo 5 minutes later if that down she goes. Looks like it finally kicked the bucket. So now I dig out a old Dell Inspiron e6400 laptop that everything has to be updated on and the screen is smashed so I have to use a old monitor that has DVI connection to have a decent screen.

Well my daughter comes home and sees what a contraption I am working from and says hey I have a better laptop her old one I bought for her school. So she comes wagging it in here. Its a ACER something  and I am telling you this thing literally crawls. Its so slow I can go buy steaks bring them home season them marinate for 24hrs then grill and eat them waiting on a browser to open. So now I spent the last hour jacking with it to get it to walk at a fast pace maybe jog once in a while.

So now that its working somewhat normal I need to get me a new desktop. Laptops are good for some stuff but I really like sitting back working off my 25" screen with stereo sound.

More likely just someone being an azzhat. Back when I attempted to sell cars for a living (key word there: attempted), we took all the antennas off the Jeep Wranglers and stored them in the service department's parts room. People would walk by the car lot at night, take them off, and sometimes just bend them into a horseshoe and leave them on the ground.

Well, the only reason I'm still walking around is my second cousin was an Airborne Infantry Major General or I would be MIA presumed dead in Quảng Trị Province along with the rest of the long range recon patrol I was supposed to have a been part of. Paparockcal, They hate me because my MOS is my real world profession for 20yrs this April. And anytime there is a big project, the XO asks us for our opinions and guidance rather than them.
