Usually in Maine there is only Sebago that is ice free for me at the end of December. This year with rain and warmer temps the ice went out most everywhere. I went to a close by hole that I used to fish for Crappie 40° water. I could see crappie all over the place on the active target but could make them dance but not play on a drop shot. Took out a jerk bait and found that was what the fish wanted. 17 bass 6 crappie and too many pickerel on Friday, solo. Yesterday I talked a friend off the couch and we caught 25+ largemouth 12 crappie and too many pickerel.

There might be some ice tomorrow but I plan to try again for a few hours to start the year.  Supposed to be below freezing pretty much all day. Warm though this week so I plan to fish until I get turn away.

Happy New Year, All UB
