2006 Ultimate Bass Ralley General Discussion

We have decided to split the UBCS due to the lack of participation of the clubs on the site. The 2006 UBCS will be hosted by the Lock Jaw Bass Club and when Rattle gets the information together he will let us know when it is going to be held.

The Ultimate Bass Ralley is going to be a Site Wide Event. All members will be invited to fish either single or with a partner.

The idea here is get as many people involved as possible in the event and to have a get together where all of our members have the oppertunity to meet and get to know the people that they are talking with daily on the site.

We have talked about places to hold the tournament and think that Table Rock would be a great place to hold the First Annual Ultimate Bass Ralley. We have a reliable contact there that can help with the foot work and the communication between the lauch, hotel/marina, and the community that we will be dealing with.

I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on this as we would like to get it going full speed ahead as soon as possible.

Laurie

I'm all for it.

After meeting some of the coolest people at the UBCS this past weekend, I can't wait to meet more at the first UB Rally.

Count me in.......................wherever!

I hope so too. I am trying to set up something that will allow us to have a mini trade show on maybe Friday so that our sponsors can come in and show off what they have and some of the members can visit with them. We had Legend show up at the UBCS and it turned out great! I am hoping to get some representation at the Ralley... So what do you think? Who would you like to see there?

Sounds like a good time to be had by all.  Wouldn't mind meeting Lip either, although he already has an open invite to the Heart Of Dixie for some Kitty fishing!

According to Rand Mcnally it is 579 miles from my house to the lake...  Wonder if my wife will give me a kitchen pass for the weekend.  :D  ~shhh  :surrender:

I love the idea of the rally. We are still going to work hard on the UBCS and try to get more clubs to participate. I do believe we will need to have the tournaments at least 5 to 6 months apart. That way some will have time to recoup and afford to fish the other. I also think we would have more participation in the rally if it was held in the summer. That would put the UBCS in the spring and that could help that tournament. I also considered putting on a regional UBCS and then having a Championship UBCS . Basically what we would do is have 4 regions or more depending on the how many clubs we have and where they are located. The club that wins it's region would advance to the championship tournament. Now obviously this is just brain storming but it is something that we can look at. We will see how the UBCS goes this upcoming year and start working on a regional type tournament for next year. I'm sure Laurie is reading this in :shocking:.  :roll2:

I suppose I'd have to figure out how to get there too...got a hard push from a friend of mine  ;) but then I'd hate to come that far and not be competing for the first time...yikes, did I say what I think I said? hmmmmm...yeah, OK, I want to compete. :roll2:

Compete........................no worry about that bro.

I just fished my but off for 4 days and caught one keeper fish and it wasn't during the tournament.

But I did happen to meet about 35 or 40 new friends that were cooler than any fish I could have caught.  I promise you that!!

That's what you go for bro..................so we can meet ya!!!

Absolutely! Of course if we do something like that and that is a big "if" you may want to look at expanding the event staff. Like I told Scott today on the phone I never turn down help. lo

I guess the alternative to that would be to introduce a new member to Ultimate Bass  :-* So if you have that friend that you just can't get to visit the site but you can get them to come to the Ralley you might be able to foster a new member to the site...

This is all speculation on what could be possible.

Scott, Susie has already told me that would be a vacation trip. She wants to take the kids and go up for a week, so if that is the case the back of my boat is empty which means it's got your name all over it brother.

the above quote is from Rattle.........

Its funny, I had thought about this very thing on sunday at about 10:30 while "joking" with CMegee and Fishforfree. I discounted it pretty quick after I remembered that "hey I thought of it", gotta be an ignorant idea if I thought of it.......

Now it sounds like a great idea, being it came from Rattle....Dave

I guess everyone is having the same thoughts...  I have to admit that I thought a series of tourneys would be interesting.

Of course the Southern/Southeastern regional would have to be on Lake Guntersville... ;D  For some reason i have never fished that lake and I think it would be a great time...  :roll2:

Seriously,
I think that is a great idea, hopefully by '06 our club will have more members.  Our problem is that we started too late in the year and most people are fishing the wildcats and other tourneys...

If the Rally is half as much fun as the first two Shootouts then it will be a BLAST!

The rally idea sounds awesome! Make it a weeklong trip with the family & call it a vacation.  ~c~ I can't wait for the details!

Laurie, If there is anything I can do to help out just let me know!

Just a thought that I have had.
the clubs that are members of UB are pretty well scattered around the country and do not want to travel over a thousand miles to fish. Not to mention most have families and can't take a week or so off without their families, and then there is the cost. I suspect we averaged spending well over $300.00 apiece ( you would triple that or more for a week 1000 miles from home) and were 70 miles from home. I know that one of the things is that the  club has to be an active UB member and of course that is Laurie and Mikes decision and that   is fine with me. BUT: if we want more clubs involved how about opening to other clubs with the thought that after they fished a Shootout and met everyone and hopefully had a great time then they would want to join UB and get involved with the site. Now if we are happy with 2-3 clubs fishing OK but it has been brought up many times that we would like to see more clubs, and I am just thinking out loud. I think some are completely happy with just our 2 clubs, that is alright with me just trying to bring up other ideas.

I think the rally is a good idea because it'll give a chance for others on the site to come and meet up with everyone else.  It would also give a chance to match up non-boaters with boaters from the area.  I do not have a boat at this time, but by next year I hope to, but I wouldn't want to tow it 1100 miles.

You know I really have my heart set on Table Rock but I am trying to keep an open mind where the Rally is concerned ;)

I want to have it where there is the best facilities as well as the best bang for our buck.... I know that folks will be traveling and we need to hold it some where that will not be so expencive that it will break the bank. I also want to make sure that there is someplace where we can have an all night poker game if we need to and not disturbe anyone.... cook out under some shade trees.... and a central gathering place for all so that we can enjoy the time we get....

Ok... Asside from the location what kinds of things do we need to cover so that we can all be in agreeance (or at least understanding lo)...

Who can fish?
Can they have an off site partner?
What are we fishing for? (money or fun)
What if we had a snoopy pole fishing tournament? I think that would be fun lo lo

I think.................

1). the location needs to be central to where most of the members are (and most seem to be in the eastern half of the US)

2). anyone that's a member can fish - I think that's the whole point of it (my opinion)

3). it should be for fun and a little big bass money pot.  It should be friends getting together to fish for a few days and have a tournament as if it were a hot dog roast.  Just like the UBCS - I just wanted to meet everybody.  My partner knows that's all I did  because I sure didn't catch any fish lo

That's my thoughts for now...............

FFF I totally agree that it should be centered around FUN! I love the idea of getting to meet all of the folks from the site and fishing well........ that is just what I do. I will say that if it is as hot at the 2006 Rally as it was at the 2005 UBCS then I might just opt to stick around the camp, hotel, room and talk with folks cause it was just a tad bit hot even for me lo

I like the idea of TableRock becasue of its close proximity to other attractions for the family such as Branson, Silver dollar City, etc.  One big family vacation included with a fishing trip & reunion with our 2nd family.  ;D

I think if we make it TOO much of a tournament we will scare some people away from attending. I think this one should be mostly for fun. Maybe have a couple of small side pots like we did the Big Bass tourney on Friday at the UBCS. A small entry fee for those wishing to enter but nothing mandatory.

I think Geo's family had the right idea at the shootout. Bring the tubes, skis, whatever, & just cut loose a day or two. I think that would be lots of fun!

I emailed yesterday for ableRock info & eveidently they sent my info to every resort on the lake...I have about 30 emails from different resorts to look through!

The snoopy rod tournament sounds like fun!

I think that if we a tourney of some sort it should ONLY be open to UltimateBass members & family. Start letting others in & it could get out of hand quick!

I think I prefer TableRock due to there being lots of stuff closeby for the family to do. I know I have alot better chance of being able to take this trip if she can go & call it her vacation & have something to do everyday besides fish & be on the lake. Branson, Duck rides, Silver Dollar City, etc...She would have plenty to do!

I know it would make it tough on some other members with it being farther. I am just putting my opinion out there. I will go with the majority no matter where...It would be a long trip either way for us. We had better start saving the $$$ now!  ;)

bassadict69,
You are right as far as stuff todo for family at Table Rock.  It kills me to say this but boat trafic could be a huge issue at Dale Hollow during the summer.  From Memorial Day to Labor Day that place gets packed on the weekends. I can be there in 4 and 1/2 hours though so I still vote for Dale Hollow we could do some night fishing.

If you do a big bass contest shake it up alittle.  I think you should split pot 50/50.  Half for big fish and the other half for smallest legal bass.  That would add a hole different angle to the fishing.  It would also make the weigh in fun.

I think that we should have some kind of final decision in a week or two. I am waiting on some information from a couple of places and we need to talk about a date.

There are a lot of things that go into planning a tounament like this and i want to make sure that we don't step on a bigger tournament. I know it isn't possible to avoid all of them but I want to try as much as possible. And then there is also the Shootout to take into consideration as well.

Fishaholic,
You can fish from the shore at Dale Hollow!  Granted some spots you would have to walk up a mile and down to get to the water.  Really guys this is a great lake.  The water is crystal clear most of the time.  The residents in the area are great and welcome people like they are their own family. There are huge smallies there and lots of spotted bass also.  I have seen some sunset and sun rise there that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up from the awe of it.

Mostly participation but location and facilities are also a consideration. Both Table Rock and Dale Hollow have great facilities. The Ultimate Goal would be to get as many members together as possible  :-*

I sure would like to see everyone go but I know that just won't be possilbe, even if distance doesn't play into it, timing always does :'(

Good question.  Once a decision on a location is made, we will be able to better assess the costs.  It also will depend on what kind of lodging you want, from a 5 star hotel/resort, to camping, you can make it much more affordable with just your choice in lodging.  I think in the past most have stayed in cabins for the shootout, which came down to a very reasonable per person/per night cost.

If i do go I have a feeling I'm going to be the blacksheep in the group merely because i'm only going to be 21 at the time... maybe I should grow a scraggly beard to fit in...

The last thing you need to worry about is fitting in! This will be our first rally but if it anything like our first two UltimateBass Club Shootouts it is like a big family reunion...Only this one should be even bigger!

As far as costs, usually the cabins hold anywhere from 8 to 12 people. Fill up the cabin & divide the nightly cost between everyone in the cabin & it ends up being cheaper than any hotel I have ever seen. To give you an idea, I have space reserved in a cabin for next years Shootout in South Louisiana. The cost per person was $25 for all 3 nights. I don't think a space for a tent is that cheap!

Bman you said a mouthfull! Your right guys, it is like a great big family reunion when we all get together and I haven't been to any even that has been as much fun as the Ultimate Bass Club Shootouts so I know that getting as many of the board members together in one place at one time is going to be double or even triply the fun no matter how many fish are caught or where we are sleeping.

It will help us out the most if you can just add in anything that you can think of here. I know that lodging is a concern as well as traveling distance. The first thing we need to get set is the date so lets get that one hammered out and then we can work on the other things that we need to work on ;)

The campground is within 500' of the cabins and Marina.you can go here Reserveusa.con (http://www.reserveusa.com/) and see the layout of it.
I have said in the thread about the 2006 Ralley atSunset Marina reservations (http://ultimatebass.com/bass-fishing-forum/index.php/topic,6979.msg154616.html#msg154616) it would be best to try and get sites 1-12 as they are the best and closest sites to everything

I was on Dale Hollow in March in the middle of a snow storm with 3 and 4 footers.  Wind was blowing up in 30 plus range.  My boat is 16ft it got me back a little wet and shaken.  All of it could have been avoided if I put in at Sunset.  If the lake gets bad there is many different ramps to get you out of the weather.

From the many threads about this, apparently there are two events, one in Lafayette, the other at Dale Hollow? I wonder what effect Katrina had on the lake and lodging . The last post on the Layfayette location was back in July.  :-\

The one near Lafayette is the 3rd annual Shootout.  Not sure what will be the effect of Katrina...we are looking into it.  It is being hosted by the LockJaw Bass Club in Lake Charles.

The Rally is at Dale Hollow and we are hoping to attract LOTS and LOTS of Ultimate Bass members.  We are hoping that the more central location will all more folks to attend.

We would love to see you make both of these if possible.

Now I dont want to go off on a rant but I sure wish I could have been in on the vote on the rally location.  Dale Hollow is beautiful, no doubt about that.  I live 45 minutes west of there, for now anyway.  Have fished it the last 2 weekends and got skunked both times.  I'm sure it's because that it is the first times I have been on the lake, I am not used to fishing for smallies ( a lot different than LM's ), and I'm not used to the water being clear enough to see down 20+ feet.  Now I know that it's not always about the amount of fish you catch, but i'd be nice to catch plenty.  My concern is that unless you have a guide, or someone on the site that is going to be there to help guide the UB family, the lake can be intimidating if you havn't been on it, and the catches might be small.  If you want to have fun, and you are thinking of Tennessee My chioce would be Old Hickory.  The fishing can be great.  They held a B.A.S.S event here so it is a big name lake for sure.  The other thing is NASHVILLE!!  2nd Ave. &  Broadway....Honky Tonk Music... It's a real hoot.  The best thing is Old Hickory runs right through Nashville.  Look at a map.  One more thing, There is a BPS at the Opry mills Mall for anyone who has never been to one.  FUN FUN FUN!!!!  LONG LONG drive to get there from Dale Hollow.  But thats just my opinion.

Bassindude,We understand how you feel ,but this is something that was talked about and planned before you became a member. One of the reasons we decided on Dale Hollow was member vote and second Myself along with Bman here on the site are very familiar with the lake ,so we will be able to help folks out.
Smallmouth bass are famous for the lake ,but there is an abundant supply of largemouth there also.Yes the fishing can be tough on any lake ,especially if you are not familiar with the waters. As far as catching a big bag,we would all love to do that.
Here is a little info that was passed along to me from the manager at Sunset Marina where the Ralley is going to be held.
As I was talking to Tom this morning he told me they just had a Chamber of Commerce tournment there last weekend and a total of over 600 lbs. of fish weighed in from 70 boats for the weekend .
Just a little something for everyone to think about over the next few months .This was back in October.
As far as Nashville ,I think a lot of folks are planning a week vacation for this event and they should find enough time to swing over that way either on the way down ,or on the way home. That was a deciding factor in having it at Dale Hollow.
Title: Re: 2006 Ultimate Bass Rally General Discussion
Post by: Ouachita on November 14, 2005, 04:11:10 PM
Bassindude, next time you go there try locating the bass, either species, on sonar then drop a little jig or spoon in their faces on a carbon line and make it dance. Drop shotting a short fat soft plastic ought to produce too, vertically jigging. If you have a transducer attached to the trolling motor perch right over the fish and, if you have the sensitivity set high enough, watch the lure go down to them as a straight line from top right of screen diagonally to lower right as the screen scrolls. Stop it when it's on their level. Pester them with that and you should catch some fish.

I hope I'll be able to take off then and look forward to seeing you beat the socks off us newcomers. You'll easily have it all figured out by then. Maybe you will even have a nice fish fry happening to greet the weary pilgrims. Who knows?

Yes, Dale Hollow can be very intimidating.  There is a good bit of deep clear deep water.  I have been to school every time I have been there.  It is a beautiful lake and it that small chance that I  or who ever is with me may catch the mack daddy smallmouth. That makes it my favorite lake.  I will caution that line size or color, will have to be for super clear water.  While we are there I would think of it as everybody helping out each other to have a good time.

Just for Dale Hollow I will use P-line Floro clear. I believe I am going to go all Fluorocarbon for the Rally.  Here is what I normally go with.
All line is clear

Drop shot rod  8lb no more(It wouldn't hurt to have some 6lb handy)
Texas rig  10lb
Jig rod is 12lb
Crank Bait is 10lb(Keep in mind that 8lb might get you a little bit deeper if needed)
Top Water is 12lb
Spinnerbait is 12lb

The water is clear so most chases one can steer the fish away from any hazard during the fight. I have never used in Fluorocarbon but they say it disappears if it is 20lb.

Note when you hear a local say the lake is stained that means you can see 8ft to 10ft.  There is also shallow water fishing there I tend to focus on the deeper stuff.  The lake can fish so many different ways we all should have a good time.

Thats why I love the UB family.  We can talk to each other.  I really appreciate the info I get from you guys and gals.  I really hope I'm still in this area when the rally comes but at this point it looks doubtful.  Might still be able to make it though.  I hope I wasn't stepping on anybodys toes with my post, it really wasn't meant to, especially you Dawg.  I know your're from this area, and you have given me a lot of valuable info.  Let me know if your comming down anytime, we'll hook up.  The water on Dale was 60 degrees on sat 11/12. I think the fishing should get better when it drops to the low to mid 50's.  Thats what I've heard anyway.  Thare have been some smallies taken on live bait but i'm strictly artificial when it comes to bass.  Trying to decide if I'm going there this comming weekend or one of the other lakes.  With the rain and the cool weather that is on the way I might Have to give it one more try, It's just so frustrating getting skunked.  I'm not used to it, and I'm not confident that I can locate the fish to have a shot at them.   Dude

I think that the date that we picked for the Rally will be about right to catch fish. I will be thinking of goto baits that are a must to have there.  Here is the thing I can say I will use this and that, but when I get there I buy more stuff at the local tackle shops!!!!!  It is an addiction I can help it!

Bman,

I know I want to go but I am waiting on my Federation schedule to be completed before I decide.  Right now, it looks good to go, but I think there is going to be some shuffling with our club schedule and I fear it's going to fall right on that weekend.  Plus, I am up in the air about fishing the Weekend Series or the BFL or Midwest, so I am waiting to see how it all hashes out first.

I'd love to bring my lil' boat, but I really want to get some things fixed before I take it that far from home.  Bearings, new tires, a keelshield, and I really want the motor looked over.  None of that has happened as of yet, and I thought it might have.

We will see.....
