Mine has woke up again... fortunately with Xmas around the corner, I can offset some of what its going to cost me. lo lo
Me and the monkey get along just fine. I gave him all of y'alls address so he agreed to take it easy on me. ;D I'm going to get about 60 more Roadrunners from Jim and at least a few packs of GY Senkos and spro frogs from Monster Tackle and some 40 or 50 lb Hi Viz power pro from somewhere and that's about it for the rest of the year. Well except for some baits in the Secret Santa thing and maybe a second bait casting reel. Then that will be about all the monkey gets from me this year. ~read

I went back to the going out of business sale and spent more. Bought some various Owner terminal tackle, few tungsten bullet weights, few more packs of plastics, small spool of 40lb Power pro super8slick (never tried before) and reel cleaning supplies. They had 2 Curados and a 13 fishing concept "A" left at 40% off that I really needed to try hard not to buy.

What did he talk you into this time?
Shimano is releasing a limited edition combo with a Bantam MGL and a GLoomis 863JWR IMX Pro (yes, 863, not the normal 853) for $500. I got an email from American Legacy Fishing and they're doing a pre-order for $399 for the combo. Considering the reel is $350 and the rod is $325, I felt like I couldn't pass it up.
Needless to say, I think I'm going to have to sell off some of my older reels to offset the cost of all the new one's I've bought lately.
The bait monkey is going to be on Dr. Phil monday.
😂😂. Contest? Cheeeiiiiitttt. Don't try and make it worse

Great pick up. I have two of them. I don't use them too often, but there's nothing better out there for whenever I need a reel like that.
I cant lie, after all this is a confessional. So, I pulled the trigger on a Tatula Elite HD in H so 6.3. Planned use is alabama rigs on the hammer rod.
Was using a 3.8 curado 200B -- but unfortunately the IPT couldnt keep up with trying to keep the bait on the top of the submerged grass reliably without cranking 100 MPH. :)
I will say, if you want to throw an alabama rig not around grass and need to get it deeper, the curado is definitely the reel. That thing is a winch. Pulled the A-Rig out of a couple grass/rock spots i thought for sure I wasnt going to be able to get.
but I did get a cool Daiwa face sock, so there is that i guess lo
The 3.8 B is forever a classic that keeps on going. I dont think we will ever see another reel quite like that again.
Side note. A few new acquisitions. A trade to get the SX, and a combo deal for the SLX XT.

They work great for Wiggle Warts and Shad Raps right after ice out up here. Only problem is on windy days, it takes about 20 seconds just to wind up the slack line after the cast because the IPT is even lower at the end of a long cast with that slow of a reel.

Nice pick up. I own one of these and absolutely love it.
Unfortunately, with this being a 100 sized reel, it's probably not going to hold the spool capacity that you'll want to throw heavy A rig's. I will say it is one hell of a caster though.

Yea so i noticed that yesterday spooling-- so i throw 50 pound braid -- which is 12 pound diameter.
according to the Daiwa site it said 150 yards of 12 pound. Which is why i bought it. And the spool does "look" deeper.
however, when i spooled it, it sure didn't "look" like there was 150 yards on it.
https://www.daiwa.com/us/contents/reels/tatulaelite1/index.html (https://www.daiwa.com/us/contents/reels/tatulaelite1/index.html)
Looks like they're saying 110 yards of 40lb braid, so probably 95 yards of 50lb.
Take it out and give it a whirl. If nothing else, it's a great reel for casting literally anything else.
Joe, check out the Coastal model. I think it holds more line.

so i guess I am confused. :) if a braid manufacturer says "our 50 pound braid is equal to 12 pound mono" then I "should" be able to assume I can get hear near 150 yards on a manufacturer specified spec which says 150 yards of 12 pound mono. But, the manufacturer also says less for J-Braid which is of course different than the powerPro I have on. And, the J-Braid I have used in the past seemed to be "less round" than power pro and a heckuva lot quieter. So, not sure where the 110 comes from either lo
So, what gives? Is a 12 pound diameter braid not really a 12 pound mono diameter? Or did the manufacturer say something incorrect?
or do i need to learn to read better?
and absolutely, she getting a workout and i will let y'all know.

I always take the capacity numbers with a grain of salt, because literally every single line diameter and pound test is different. So don't sweat too much over it.

not really sweating just curious in my mind ;D It's a rabbit hole of weirdness lo
as long as i can get over 100 yards i think im ok. Alabama rig is never going more than like 40 except maybe on the luckiest downwind perfect trajectory leverage based heave ever.

Braid and mono are all different sizes depending on what brand. Not all "12#" is the same dia.

understand. And power pro 50 is .014 -- so i "ought" to have 100 yards. compared to original stren at 14 pound which is .014. Or Sufix advance which is .012 at 12 pound.
Should be good. Just dont want to spool the thing, or come close to spooling on a normal cast.

as noted above -- max with an a-rig would be 35 - 40 except for those "whoa i didnt expect that to happen" casts that sometimes happen. Just trying to let the weight do its thing.
if i have 100 yards -- i should have at least 50 - 60 left.

Welcome to the club... lo
thankfully, i dont HAVE to buy anything else as the Tat Elite passed the test today. Longest cast estimated was 40 and i only ran the spool down a little more than 1/3 so id guess i have a little over 100 -- ideal.
they were not biting the A-Rig today when I was throwing it but they were biting the chatterbait. So, fish handling power still remains to be seen.
stay tuned!
Caught a couple on the A-Rig today before the cold front made these florida bass run like a buch of wimps. lo
Very nice, lots of power from the reel and while I still want to catch a pig on the A-Rig, the chunks today were no issue.
I'm glad it worked out for you. Now go buy two more. >:D

agree!!
honestly, i bought 3 reels -- 2 daiwa type HD tatulas, a drag star, and a Citica I.
Also, picked up some K9 Flouro -- testing tomorrow.
Damn monkey and his BF sales.
I put in a big order with Lockett lures. Senkos and paddle tail swimbaits. That was nice and cut my order with TW by a bunch. Ended up with terminal tackle and some odds and ends with them.
ALF got me with the Shimano SLX XT combo. Mike keeps posting the Monster sale, and looking at the deals there I don't think the monkey is done with me yet!
Oh and I did pick up some new Plano boxes at the local Menards. 3701 Thin boxes. $6.49! Cheapest I have seen. I'm redoing my hook and weight storage since I'm going to try drop shotting.

The Monkey got me pretty good for the BF sales, but I got some great gear at some great prices.
Metanium MGL HG, plus the upgraded 96mm handle
Assorted plastics, jig heads, skirt material
Six Bandit cranks, 2 Rivers2seas cranks, 4 Jackhammers, and 4 Jacob Wheeler buzzbaits are on the way to me.
The Rivers2seas cranks are the ones made by the Tactical bassin guys. It is definitely different.
The rest I have used and catch fish well.

couple thoughts on the recent acquisitions:
1. K9 is flat out awesome!! the 20 pound lays on the reel like 12. Excellent stuff. For 20 bucks/500 yards its absolutely a no brainer
2. The citica I 200 -- WOW! One of the only shimano reels I have tried I will probably keep.
3. Have not tried the Daiwa TypeHD 200. Honestly, was so impressed with the citica I I didnt give it a chance yet.

Truth.
This was the first time I didn't. Figured 4 or 5 days, no biggie. Now that I think about it, its also more times for a rod to get handled and potentially damaged. 2nd air is on a plane for most of the trip.

For some reason when I was adding to cart the old saying "Go big or go home" just mysteriously went through my head. lo Im absolutely sure some shad get that big but I should return it for another 6" Bluegill. That Bluegill is awesome looking.
Still deciding on what rod I am going to pick up for these.

HAD to help the store out. Just doing my part to help the US economy, Japan's too I guess.
My pairing slx rod is MIA at the moment. Something weird is going on with the tracking number. This SLX XT 150XG will pair with a 6'10" MH XF. Going to be my t-rig and jig rod I think. Cant decide if i should just spool it with braid like usual or go another route. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200117/ae3b97d9f6b05c5dec24401d0d9e692f.jpg)

Against all my better judgement I ordered this lure. I never pay this much for a single lure. I knew about the lure for quite some time and had passed on it when I realized it just wasn't what I would spend on a lure. But something about it had my attention and when I watched the video KeepinItReelFishing did on it a few weeks ago I just saw it working on my lake. The monkey was strong I kept putting it off. I had it in my cart and walked away several times only to go look at it again. Eventually I caved and it just arrived.
It is a very nice looking lure. I think I have fallen into what I see others doing. They spend a stupid amount on a lure, rod, or reel, and have no choice but to brag on how great it is or look considerably dumb for over spending. lo Don't worry I am under no illusion that this is going to be a solution to getting huge fish to bite. But it doesnt hurt to try! ~roflmao

No its not wood. It has some great features that I like. It has great action retrieved even at very slow speeds. Its quite big for a crankbait that runs shallow, it can make a nice large wake bait, and it can be used as a larger squarebill. For a injection molded bait fit and finish looks great. I have been trying to use larger cranks and plastic baits to get me some bigger bites.
y'all have been busy....glad i could help lo

Better order a new reel and some line to go with it. It's the only proper way to order a new rod.

In some respects I should start now being I don't have as many rods to replace, but I also just don't have the money to spend $350 on a rod. That's an entire race weekend for me!

Champions don't run $350. During certain times of the year, if you look around you may catch sales where you will find Champions for under $250.

Found a quantum Iconpt for about $50. I plan to use it on a short rod and move the fuego to the fuego rod.
Reel and line ordered for the new Dobyns DC 736 CB Glass rod.
For the reel I went back and forth between a Daiwa Tatula 200 and a Lew's BB1 Pro Speed Spool PRS1SHZL. I really liked the idea of the externally adjustable centrifugal brakes on the Lew's but after a couple days of comparison shopping I couldn't find one within my budget so I went with the Daiwa.
Rod delivery is listed for tomorrow. Reel and braid expected on Friday, but they're coming USPS and with my issues with them you never know. ::)
I found a seller on fleabay that was down to their last one left on the Daiwa. I talked them down to $96 including shipping and I had a coupon and some fleabay bucks so I got it for really cheap.
On the braid, I don't usually do this but I thought it would look slick to have the braid match the rod colors. Imagine if I had gone with the Shimano SLX XT fot the reel. :o
Now through the entire weekend is looking pretty busy for me but I'll try to get some pics posted this time around.

Crazy, I just picked up a Tatula 200 to put on the 805CB Glass. Put it on the 764CB with 3/4 oz. the set it up. It outcasts my BB1's. I'm dialed for the up coming year and some. I wish I could have found it for 96 bucks. That's a steal. Sweet Smallie.

Steve, you have no idea the things that are running through my mind reel wise, and matt is only about 1/2 to blame for them. lo
So my Dobyns DC 736 CB arrived early this morning. And in a surprising twist the Daiwa Tatula 200 showed up about an hour later.
I haven't put the reel on the rod yet. I'm waiting on the braid that is supposed to be here tomorrow. I'll spool it up and then take pics before I pull the reel back off so I can take the plastic off the cork and seal it with U-40.
I've got to get busy on some of this stuff. I've only got 2 or 3 months before the ice is gone!
This is what I saw when I went out for my morning walk. What a way to start the day!

I thought I was the only one that had trouble threading line, tying knots, etc? Not so all alone I guess. Received quantum Icon PT100 today. Spooled on some of that cheap, cheap, chinese braid and mounted it to one of my short rods. As far as smoothness goes it is comparable to a tatula,I can tell though that the quality is less. Didn't seem to effect performance. Also took picture of my Savage gear rats.
Wow, those rats look REALLY good! ~c~
I almost bought some of the Savage Gear perch swimbaits a few years back but some other things got in the way. They make some good stuff.
smallie-stalker, you can't see them in the photo, but they actually have whiskers. I admit to being a bit boggled at this level of detail. Half the reason I buy savage gear stuff is that I'm sure in a few decades no one will believe they ever made such things. ;) :) I am close to being done buying lures now,I want a few more spinnerbaits, and maybe a couple jigs.
BTW monster tackle is running a sale on savage gear lures, you can get one of those bluegill lures for $5 right now..

Its actually red, but it does look pink in the picture.

The problem is the rehab group is actually run by the monkey as a way of making you buy more. You are better just feeding him occasionally.

As much as I want a couple of the Kadens that are still available I made two big purchases and a couple smaller ones last month.
I will be buying a few small things this month but I'm saving as much as I can cause I got 2 more rods on my list I want by summer - the Xdtasy 725C and the Champ 764 CB. And of course those are each gonna need a new reel.

Keep on feeding that monkey. lo lo
Went to the fishing expo in Columbus,Ohio Saturday, spent about 3 hours there. Got some hand tied bladed jigs, hand tied 1/4 oz swim jigs from the same guy. Also got some custom painted squarebill cranks, and a few bags of plastics. Got a few things at Cabela's up the road from there also. Then stopped at a local tackle shop on the way home that I hadn't been to in about 10 years, and found a Creed GT spinning reel to match the new Kaden spinning rod for $50, so saved some money there, also got some line for my spinning rods while I was there. Got home and seen that American Legacy had the Lew's Tournament MP on sale for $119 so ordered two of those in the 8.3:1 ratio for the two new Kaden casting rods. Definitely saved money on them!! So now the monkey can leave me alone till end of the month, when my favorite tackle shop has their annual sale. ~b~

Does this favorite tackle shop have a website? Asking for a friend...
I did place a small order to TW. Needed U40 and KVD line conditioner so naturally I added some stuff to get free shipping. Couple nutech jigs, a clipless crank, some bullet weights, wacky tool and a couple plano boxes. Don't even remember anymore lol.
Funny thing, I ordered some new gym shoes. They were 99.99. I had $20 off of $100 coupon so I threw a Googan jig on the list to be able to use it.
Oh, and I ordered a label maker off amazon to organize my tackle.
Oh and picked up a dry bag for the kayak at the outdoor show.
Crap the monkey got me and I didn't even realize it.

Don't you worry Lip I will keep him away from you this weekend for sure! lol My local tackle shop is having their spring sale and usually spend quite a bit. ;D
I had some eBay bucks and a couple of coupons so I picked up a couple of cranks and some Traps.
The Norman crank is a pre-Pradco model Deep Baby N in the color that has produced more fish for me in any colored water than any other.
The squarebill I got for $1.75. It's an H20 Xpress series 300. The color is similar to the Norman DBN and the price was right. I got a surprise when the bait arrived. Even though it wasn't in the listing this particular bait has a single knocker style weight instead of the normal rattles I was expecting. I consider this a happy bonus!
The 4 Traps are also Knocker style. I have very few other trap style baits with the knocker sound and I got these for a steal so I just had to add them.
I had these baits in my watch list for a while and they didn't sell and were re-listed several times so all 3 sellers made me a special offer and with my eBay bucks and coupons they were all offers I couldn't refuse.
At least that's what the monkey told me. ::) ~roflmao

I might bite the bullet and get some 6 or 8 lb Hi Viz for my UL set up also.

Excellent choice. I love my Elite!
In an attempt to fish more worms this year, I made an order with Manns and stocked up on some Jelly Worms. These classics still catch fish.
I got the 6.3 standard Elite. I have a 8.1-1 Zillion HD on my pitchin' rod and a 9.1-1 Zillion HD on my flippin/braid rod. The Elite is going on my spinnerbait/chatterbait rod.

If you pick up an Extreme 795, be sure and use protective eye wear. It's common for small bass to come flying at you on an aggressive hook set. Mine is a pre HP and it's an awesome stick.

To get a look at some Dobyns porn that arrived at my door just a few minutes ago, check it out:
---> Here (http://www.ultimatebass.com/bass-fishing-forum/index.php?topic=150984.0)
I have some more non-Dobyns (but Dobyns related - That should keep you in suspense ;D) stuff that is supposed to be here by the end of the week. I'll post up pics when it comes in.
The monkey has somehow taken up residence in my apartment and I can't get rid of him. Seems he will be here at least until June or July. ::)

The color of these BPS boxes match different Dobyns logo colors. I can put the baits I'm gonna use on a particular rod in matching color boxes to make it quicker to find what I need!
The box that looks lighter blue in these pictures is actually a greenish blue that matches the Sierra logo very closely.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200326/f4ad656cc12f6698ff6133b9cf75f13c.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200326/d0e88abd096bd7d9d0e14ae0c4f03b74.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200326/07722ff433b86d77239255cd90303e7d.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200326/742dbbfc4e117954aa0b726f4d31b4f6.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200326/4d940a9d5350b56ece2cf62027ce824c.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200326/89fcf6b44a340fbc2b18dfb442603c2b.jpg)

Can you guess what the purchase is gonna be?
Hints: Extreme measures may have to be used to guess. I was gonna give you 7 guesses, then thought 4, then narrowed it down to 2. So For now that's all the hints you get.

Walked into the local Academy and this week and staring at me was a G Loomis E6X casting rod for 95.00 and that dam Monkey bit me.
Looking around my garage, I noticed a few things. I either can't find all my chatterbaits, or I'm a lot lower than I thought I was. The one's that I do have, some of them have developed some rust on the hooks. So I ordered a few more Jackhammer's and Thunder Crickets. A spinnerbait has been my money maker the past year, but I love a good chatterbait bite. Damn monkey!
Damn - Monkey just bit me ....
Got two spools (Steez and Core) & Abu Garcia Premier Gen 2. (6.4.1)

You're welcome.
The hooks were basically free. I had $10 in Amazon gift cards and they only came out to $9.55 and free shipping with Prime.
And of course with X Zone being a sponsor the discount code saved me some $$$ too
Wasn't much over $20 out of pocket for everything.

Yes sir they are listed as fly tying hooks by Gamakatsu. And like all Gammy hooks they are super sharp.
Pro Brent Ehrler discovered their effectiveness as a finesse hook for bass fishing. He claims about 98% of the bass he hooks with them are right through the top of the mouth.
Sometime around June or July I'm planning on getting some Mustad Titan X hooks, Trokar TK - 137 finesse hooks and the VMC finesse/wacky hooks and see which one of the 4 I like best.

Just about the last of the outstanding orders arrived today from a couple different places. The COVID -19 situation has caused some long delivery delays.
I only have paperwork on my desk for a Daiwa shirt I'm waiting on and that should be it for a good bit.
I didn't order the Rooster Tail but it was included with the Neko/wacky hooks from Academy. Not sure if it was a mistake or just a small token of appreciation for people who are supporting their business at a time like this.

Welp, I just ordered the HG version to go alongside my 6:1 version. These new Metaniums are the bee's knees.
Nice FB ~c~
I just bought a used, but in awesome condition Metanium HG yesterday for about $160.
Here it is on my Abu rod, but once I get to my boat it will be paired up with my DX742

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201226/dd976a0ae6e52c55c088d2f7ac98bcc5.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201226/44179d0d327414c227d43db6acec6708.jpg)

yes, indeed he is -- glad you found that nugget lo
All I know is the monkey bit me again, just ordered a bunch of the Bass Mafia Coffins 2.0! He just won't leave me alone!
crankbaits should be here any day.....
making a finesse crank/winter crank box. Have a early spring table rock box. After cleaning out the pounds of plastics from the front of the boat, and the lead from the weights, both to the back, there is room for cranks
and some have arrived. ordered some balsa flat sides with circuit board lips. some are like a shad rap but a little heavier to cast better.

I've heard really good things about the Black Label cranks!

Nice haul!
I've been curious about those sonic sides so I'll be interested in your thoughts on them.

So, you quit drinking beer 'ey ~roflmao
Sonic sides i happened to find in a good package deal on ebay. Otherwise i may not have bought them -- only megabass thing ive ever really has success with is the jerkbait.
really looking forward to the balsa black labels. They should work perfect in the eel grass on gunt. So many humps and bars at the depth those run to.

......but at least most of this stuff was on sale ^-^
received the Cashion rod, and a whole box of cranks from the TW order I made before Christmas.

I was able to get out a few minutes at the dock today. I really like this rod. Its really light, almost feels like a custom. The tip is amazing and the bend is about 3/4 of the way up with a nice shape. Tip feels pretty fast, which is what I want in a jerkbait rod. Not a dandy fish by any means, but caught two back to back off the same piece of grass so there were shad there. Best part? Made in USA. ~flag

Those Icons are awesome! My local shop has them in stock and every time I go in there I mess with them. I will be gradually replacing my arsenal with those rods if work ever gets back to normal!

i am HIGHLY impressed with the rod so far. Granted, its only been about 20 minutes but still. Definitely looking at their cranking sticks too.
Well the wife and I finally got off quarantine yesterday so felt like I needed to go to my local tackle shop and spend $100 on tackle to celebrate! Haha. Got some SK 1.0's, couple Denny Brauer structure jigs, some Zoom soft plastics and some hooks I needed to restock on!
Monkey told me I should check out the BPS sale on Bobby Garland...(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210127/bac504c50df2a4df6e76f43b2fdf3a65.jpg)

Just a bit lo lo lo
They won't spool me with my 2000yrds of 6lb braid!
But really, needed to update my surf reel. Was running an old heavy Penn reel that was undersized for 25 lb mono and a 10 ft rod.

just kidding. Seriously, nice surf reel.
it wasn't the only thing I bought ... but the most expensive lure today was the little johnny rat.

The winter fever monkey just rung me up for 16 of those new Rapala OG Slim crankbaits. These things look great!
I am waiting on tacklewarehouse to hurry up and ship those to me.
well hell, I realized i havent been a good monkey reporter
the Rapala OG's came in, swimjigs galore and chatterbaits galore, some weights and hooks....that garage wall slatboard getting full lo
The bait monkey got me good this weekend. I ordered the new Power Gear (PG - 5:1 ratio) Curado K for my early spring/late fall cranking needs. And then while respooling a few reels on Sunday, I dropped my line stripper tool on the concrete in the garage and broke it, so of course I had to order $90 in stuff along with a new line stripper.
