Title: Minn Kota Edge vs. Motorguide X3
Post by: bmb5482 on June 09, 2014, 11:31:23 AM
A. Minn Kota Edge Bow Mount Trolling Motor 12 Volt 45lbs Thrust 45" Shaft - MSRP $429.99
B. MotorGuide X3 Trolling Motor 12V 45lbs 45" - MSRP $379.99

Is there any reason why the Minn Kota is worth an extra $60?

I'm wondering the same as I am in the market for a 24 volt 70lb thrust. maybe not a fair comparison as the X3 is brand new model and the Edge has been around for a while. MG may have tried to hit the sell price lower than the edge line with intent to steal some of the business.

Depends on where you look, sometimes the difference is only $30-$40.  I don't know much about either of these models.  For me, I'm a Minnkota guy, because I like the way their foot pedal has the buttons on it.  I had a Motorguide once, for one outing and switched it out, I just didn't like the placement of the button on the foot pedal.

One thing I would suggest, is I would consider upping to a 24 Volt Trolling motor.  It is a bit more pricey, and you'll need another battery, but it is well worth it.  If you are on the TM a lot, you will find yourself running your battery down on a 12 Volt...

over the years I have had several of both brands
I find that the minn kota were the most trouble free
