September is behind us and the slate has been wiped clean. Congrats again to last month participants. If you have been following us, now is the time to throw your hat in the ring. In case you don't know who we are I highly recommend you read any thread in regards to Bragging Rights that began since April 2014. This month's cutoff will be on Tues Oct 7th. Entry is simple: All you have to say is " I'm in" and I will take care of the rest. Any questions just post and ask. Good luck to everyone!!......... I'm in ;)
I'm IN!
Is it Friday yet?
I'm in. As long as Pz3 will let me.
I'm in.
Hopefully I will actually get to fish some more!
Good luck everyone. Except LMG and Alicia... lolol
Im in, and Alicia says she is in as well. This isnt facebook, so getting her to post is like pulling teeth. Women and their dang facebook I swear! :-\
I'm in.
Its great seeing you guys and gal returning. Hopefully I can contribute some fish to the board this month. ;)

Wish you could make it Tim. Hope all is well.
I knew I could only go for a few hours yesterday but I wanted to try it anyway. This one lake I fish every once in awhile is crazy. Gives me one good fish within the the first 30-45 minutes then nothing after. Done it to me several times.
Oh well. 15.5 Inches. It's a start.

West and Deadeye, both of your catches have been documented.
We are in and should get some time in. Can someone clue me in to what the AOY is? Oh and @MCS Bandit's been working on the car but not enough. He had the day off today and I hear he rented a storage unit and made room in the garage so maybe things are about to get serious lol.

Gator glad your back. AOY, is the Bragging Rights Angler of the year. Since several of us have been at this for a while now. We came up with a point system that illustrates how successful participants have been over a course of a year. Winner get's ultimate bragging rights. ~c~

1) 12"
2) 11"
Total: 23"

If so I now have 15.5 + 16.5 + 16.75 + 17 + 17.5 = Total of 83.25

Yeah I saw that. I was asking in general. I couldn't remember what we had talked about back when the Classic was first being discussed, that is if the fish during the Classic would count towards the October Total.
Really why not? after all they were caught in October too. Whatever you all decide is fine with me.
Yeah. Take your 5 biggest from the classic for the month.

Absolutely. I have a place on Lowery. I normally fish with one of my girls, but they are always finding something "better" to do than fish.
I fish the WH Chain a couple of times a year and I could use some pointers there.

Sounds good partner. I got a few spots in there to share. Shoot me a PM sometime.
I looked back over my records for my PB, the one that I got during the April Bragging Rights. It was not 7.3 lbs like I thought but 7.0 and 24" long.
I guess that means that this one from this month at 7.0 Lbs and 25" is my new PB! If inches matter in that sort of thing.
Either way it was a tie.
Its kind of quiet over here today. Where is everyone? Fishing? Maybe at home crying? I know what I will be doing later.. ~beer~

So.... what did you catch the fish on? Did you break the frog in? Was the 40lb braid enough?
You see that rod and reel in the pic? All fish came on that. They dug into the grass, nothing got away. Skill level hard.
How are the new gloves?
Picked this up and put some clear mono on it. Got a dozen dinks between today and yesterday.

I had a quantum just like it before. That reel for the price takes a beating! Dont think a 20$ reel can get much better then it. Drags not smooth though but its okay.

Oh yeah everyone is getting on fish now baby. Seriously I like how this Monthly Contest has grown in such a short time. I look forward to checking it each day to see who has done what.

I agree Deadeye. We have progressed nicely. Hopefully we can attract some more participants as we move forward. The highest we have had in the past was shy of 30. I will also say the competition is fun, and challenging. Challenging because if your fishing time is limited like mine has become, whenever I do manage to get out, I must figure out the pattern quickly. You jokers can put some serious fish on the board!! ;)

I agree. Especially with no boat right now and limited time. But fun to post up and read regardless. I did manage andink of the dock but not worth mentioning.
Just wanted everyone to know I have seen the posts with your catches. I have not documented because I am wrapping up at a conference I am attending. I will post the leaderboard either tonight or tomorrow.
Ok... I documented LMG, Speedy, CCR, and BOATS. Did I miss anybody?? I will post the numbers later. I am going to the canal later. All these fish made we want to catch something!! LOL!!

I just finished swapping lines on 2 of my outfits. I took off the 15lb yozuri on my STX and replaced with the 40 lb braid I had on my Lews MG. The braid looks good as new when you reverse it. Then I put some new 12lb yozuri on the MG. When I go out Thurs to the lake I scouted today I will be throwing the STX on the LTB. Let's see what happens. ~shade

Scared of what? I don't like limiting myself. I don't get to fish much anymore, so I am going to use the right rod for the situation. You like to use soft plastics more than I do anyways. It would make more sense to use copoly for the light stuff you throw.

Hey LMG... your 12# challenge reminded me of a conversation you and I had last year, when we were planning to launch the Bragging Rights contest over here. Remember we spoke about challenges? Maybe you're on to something here. For example let's use your 12# challenge. Let's say you land a 20"+ fish. That will qualify you for a 3 pt bonus. Just spit balling, what do you guys think?
You have to understand that there are different conditions. IE the fact that I pulled those 2 fish Saturday at Lox, in the flats, full of vegetation. Not an open canal system.

I know I get what your saying. Landing fish in slop is very challenging esp. On 12lb test. Even open canals present challenges. I lost 2 monsters months ago on copoly in an open canal. What I left out, was the fact that fish made a beeline to the limestone ledges. Light line will always present challenges. Thw fish size was just a number I pulled out of the sky. We can make it any number really. Again, just thoughts to make it more challenging if people want bonus points.
I think there are just too many factors that could be played into it. With me, it's more of a personal challenge.

Oh...the "other side".
Ive been using 12lb mono lately. XL smooth casting. Its pretty strong on the cheap quantum ive been using.
I guess ill give it a shot.
That stuff is gonna be like a slinky if you are used to braid, lol. I notice the difference with the CoPly. I have to reel all the way down on those long cast hits, lol.

Well...lets not get into your fishing style......lol.
Slinky is a good term and more often then not im suprised to find a fish on the end of mono. Never really feel the hit.
But sometimes I like that. The extra play I think helps a bit. It doesnt seem to spook the fish as much when tightening the line up. More forgiving if you will.
But spinning setup and weightless trick worms reign supreme in the fall for me. Sometimes more so then speed worms.

Not much of a difference between pure fluoro and the coply for me. I notice that the fluoro gets weaker faster with every tough hookset. Fluoro actually will stretch, but doesn't regain shape. In other words, it thins at parts.

It will stretch, not like mono does, but it will stretch a bit. The thing is that if you stretch YoZuri and then you take the strain off it, it will return to its original form with little to no affect to the line. With Fluoro, if you stretch it, it causes stress damage to the line, and it does weaken it a bit. Retying with Fluoro is a must, and should be done constantly. Usually it is done 3-5ft at a time.

But I am alright using that yozuri....Because in my head I am hesitant. I have plenty to "waste" but I just spooled it up a couple trips ago. And I cannot stand the thought of ditching it.

Since you asked for my opinion, I give it... ;D
I did water samples and sechi disk readings in several lakes in Polk Co over several years for the DEP. A sechi disk is basically a white steel plate you drop in the water and record the depth at which it disappears. Most Florida lakes will average less than 3 feet so unless you are in an ultra clear highly pressured pit, then line visibility is not a factor.
Since, in my opinion, visibility in not the deciding factor and we don't have deep enough water to worry about line bow, that leaves STRETCH as most important.
You really only need 2 line types to fish all Florida water, 12 lb mono and 40-65 lb braid.
I use mono for anything with treble hooks. For treble baits you use a sweep set and you want the stretch to absorb any shock while landing a large fish.
I use 40 lb braid for light weight plastics to increase casting distance and to "cut" through light vegetation.
I use 65 lb braid for hand to hand combat in the slop.
Berkely 12 lb Big Game and Power pro are my favorites.
Big game is good stuff, and I were to use mono, that would be a good choice.

Makes sense. Seeing as there are a couple out of a dozen ponds I fish that I would deem clear, which probably aren't gin spring fed kingsley clear, I just might as well throw braid. The distance and management on a caster is un-disputable. I am 50-50 with mono/braid on a spinning outfit and prefer mono for trebles except lipless.
Hey Lmg send me that cajun mono or siege I will send you the rest of that yozuri ;D

That looks like my type of fishin :) IMHO not that it matters, I woulda hit it before the ~sun got up that bright. But good luck.
Hit up my spot about 5:50 am and pitched a 7" ribbon tail...missed a couple short strikes went to a bb cricket. Landed 2 one keeper missed a third.....lull then around 7 am missed a quick strike and ran out of room on a follower bringing the cricket in. All hell broke loose around 7:15 and they were busting little ways off. Only had my pitching setup and those two baits so I cast out, couldn't connect on one. Then had to get to the office. Chilly out had the hoodie on, but FALL is here!!!

What YoZuri you got?
I never tried the KVD frogs. My buddy had one and didnt like the walking action on it. I love my livetarget frogs too but for some reason bass around my area dont like them at all.

Good to know. I want to try out one of the Lunker combat frogs, either Zulu or Fox Trot. Ohh and btw, thanks for helping me pick out a new froggin rod. I absolutely love my new rod.

Cool man glad to hear it. I am skeptical about those lunker frogs....I will stick to booyah, for the price and effectiveness they can't be beat. The spro and LT frogs are twice as much and Lou swears by the LT I have the mouse and it sucks, I just am not gonna pay 10 bucks.

Lunker frogs quality is not that good imho. Only two frogs I throw are booyah's and Lt's.

Lunker came out with a whole new design for the new combat frogs. I used to to swear by the LT frogs too, it was my first topwater frog i ever caught a bass on. I got a spro frog to try it out and I like the action on it but im yet to catch a fish on it. Might give it another try this weekend.

Re-emburse me for the shipping if you want. I have plenty of it. I don't know why, I just got them for like $4 a spool or something like that.
Did manage to catch one fish to cull one of my 14's. This one is a 17" for a 79.5" total.

Just decided to go walk the canal with a jig. Caught 1. Saw a big bass approx 5-6lbs come out from under me while fishing. I see where she hangs out. One day I will get her.

I had a little luck today, and was able to catch 3, really nice on the water in the morning. started at 7 and fished till 11, i got 2 small dinks on a trick worm (junebug), and 15" on a bitters worm in watermelon red glitter, not much action but better then my last trip.

Well, lets see hmmmm, good side is we caught 8 fish. Bad side none of my 4 measured, they were 8 to 10 inches. However I am a big enough man to come on here and say two of the wifes measured. 3lb and one 1 lb.
Well I was supposed to go to the lake this morning for the weekend and give you boys a run this month. But. I woke up to a power problem in the house. One of the wires on the pole burnt in half over night and when that finally got fixed around 2 pm then I discovered a problem on one of the circuits in the house. Both of my electrician buddies are in tree stands in GA since today is opening day of deer season. So here I am, not at the lake, trying to run extension cords to get the cable box and big screen going so I can at least watch football tonight.
I entered this contest in the spring on the other site and did not catch a fish over 12" that month. This month I haven't even made it to the water. Maybe I should stay away from the contest. ;D
I have spent the last 30min coaxing 2, 4lb peacock 's to connect with my bait. Round 1 pea's People must think i am crazy cuz i waa talking to them the whole time!! Lol!!

Sorry to hear about your electrical issues. There is always something when you own a home. Hopefully the issue gets resovled soon.
I got out the other day, caught a couple that wouldnt help and one that would. Just my luck though, I line it up to snap a pic, fish goes 18 inches on the board. Hit the camera button on the phone, click the round button on the screen to snap the pic and it makes this half a$$ click noise and shuts off. Phone completely died. Sooooo, let the fish go and packed it in. Will try again with the phone charged today maybe :)
Had plans to go to O tomorrow, but I just dont know if its going to happen. So much going on with opening up the new shop, hard to get away.
Im dieing. Only fished for maybe two hours so far for this month.
It's dead still out here.

Beautiful weather for sure. Hopefully going to look at boat tomorrow. Which will improve my fishing time from now. You can only spend so much time on the dock.
To the swim jiggers in the group, how do you all fish it? It was slow on the canal today, so i threw a swim jig for entertainment. Missed a 30"+ Snook, but that's a whole other story. This was my 3rd miss on them. Anyways.... do u all fish it similar to a spinnerbait and jig?

So I got out this weekend with a buddy of mine and had a great time. We went to a new lake we have been eye balling for a couple months now, it has "NO FISHING" signs everywhere around it ~shhh. Caught 5 and lost a good one. Only 3 where worthy of a measure, the other 2 were as big as the senko I was throwing lol. I tried using the frog in the morning for about 45 min and nothing, caught everything on a green pumpkin with red flakes senko.

I do have to say, now that I have a minute to type more than a few words, my performance on the water yesterday was sub par. I think a lot of it had to do with the late night Saturday with the Jason Aldean concert. I got out on the water around 12 and was pooped by 4:30. I had caught a bunch of fish, but at the last hour I had lost 4, and 1 being a biggun by the size of the wake and pull on the line. My back was really giving me issues, and I had set the hook like a girl on that big one. After I lost the other 3 from crap hooksets, I threw in the towel. Maybe next weekend. Till then, I will take my medicine. ~beer~

Thanks and I did. My MC offers camping during these events and most of the folks have been with us for quite some time, so it is sort of a Biker Family Reunion.
I even had the honor as President of the Club of doing a Life Commitment Ceremony for a couple on Friday night. It was a blast sitting around the campfire each night and talking about what we had seen and done that day.
Some pics and a video of the Ceremony are posted on our Daytona 200 MC Facebook Page.

Takes to much effort to get there and the gators follow me around constantly. It's like race once I set the hook on a fish. Don't want them to get any of the big girls once I hook them!!
Well, ended up fishing a couple of ponds around my house tonight. Had two good bites, but only set the hook on one of them. Forgot my measuring tape. Calling it 17.5".....

I was loving it last night. The rod and reel are both amazing. Still trying the fluorocarbon...... It feels great while fishing the bottom, but I have an over run about every 5-6 casts unless a tighten up the cast control. This combo would be amazing with braid! I have noticed that all of my reels with the SVS Infinity make more noise/vibrations than my white 200E reels while casting. The 200E reels feel smoother and seem to cast smoother to me. On the other hand the 200E reels don't feel as "connected" and don't have the amount of power while reeling in fish. The X Ship makes a difference to me. I'm definitely getting another XX rod and Metanium combo. Probably the HG or XG model. They are very tight, precision feeling reels.
I like that boat, West. I'm looking for something like that also. It should serve you well. What all are you going to do or add to it? I'm sure we would all love to follow your progress in your own thread!

Nice, but at that price I could make that DHSV out perform it for way less. People pay the price for 2 reasons: because they don't know how to tune, or they just want the reel itself. It is a beautiful reel though.

DO EEEET! PoPo
I had to, the fiance put a whoopin on me last month! She had to take our daughter to some other girls house to work on a science project... I snuck out with the boys to fish. Funny thing was there was 4 teenagers at the pond I usually fish. One of them was throwing a frog. Not one like Lou throws though, this toolbag had on an ACTUAL LIVE FROG he was hurling. They all came running when piggy started thrashing, one of em almost stepped on my rod trying to get a look at what bait im using. I would have been hurling THEM into the water if he snapped my stick!
EZ does it btw, havent put it down since the classic!
Oh and shes still not talking to me... the boys have big mouths, we were supposed to be out there in secret! She wouldnt even look at the picture, what kind of shh is that!! haha

I like Mike's jigs. They hold up longer than the Booyah's. But if you take the rattles off and put a big trailer on it look out. I like swimming it just under the pads. I caught 40 two poundersin two days during a blue gill spawn a few years ago on Kissimmee.

No doubt Mike's stuff is top notch. I have 3 of his spinnerbaits. I caught a decent size gar at Kissimmee and the spinnerbait was straightened out. I bent it back in place and its still good as new. A booyah spinnerbait would have broken in half.
Well boys, not so much success this morning. It was cold and dark and I didn't have hand warmers in my pockets lo Pitched a Dbomb around, nothing really til I get to this one spot on my lake, a control structure in a little cut out filled with riprap...My nemesis lives there. I have caught dinks and a pounder or two. But there is something big, I hooked it once and lost it, t broke me off, and then numerous taps and teases followed by missed hooksets. It did it again.....go through and slight tap, didn't set. Pitch it back and BAM! I wait a sec, and fell it, set, and onnnnnnnnn OOOOOOOOOOOOOh wait no....OFF! :'( ~xyz and a half ripped Dbomb. ^-^ ~rant Walked back to the car and fished the other stick with same bait as yesterday and got one probably 12" in 15 minutes of fishing that. :)

I am not a real fan of the new Dick's "top secret" crap...especially the blades. But give me a booyah any day. Those things catch big fish, I don't care if they break or not. counterstrike is the ^-^

Oh whatever. I tried a topwater frog for quite a while. Was just about to be skunked so I hit a spot that has worked everytime with a uvibe. I pulled 3 dinks out probably one at 12-14 but didn't realize my numbers were so bad lol. Oh well.
After those three from the same spot the 4lber took hold. I called it a night after that. Great fight too!!
Lou and I did good with those on Kissimmee. Let the haters hate. They produce when used right.

Caught about 4 today at sunset, nothing that would help. All around 15 or so. Dunno how much more I'll get a chance to fish but would like to cull at least one more, think its 16.5. The work at the shop has really been kicking my butt, laying wood flooring and carpet, demo and remodeled a bathroom, etc. Now I know why I didnt follow my Dad into construction!

Fyi, the reason why its like that is because they are designed to cover the guides, not the whole rod. You have to get the xlong rod glove to fit down to the balls, i mean reel on a 7' rod. I have a bunch of those things i intended on using but they do nothing but get in the way. Reel covers on the other hand are a must have if you like nice paint and resale value.

Yeah this was a free trial crap shoot from fish hound and I ended up with no say so in what I got. I ended up with this rod glove thing, they pre determined the length even :-\. I would never pick one of these up, especially now seeing it, for 6-8 bucks they seem pretty dang useless. The reel covers will come with time as I get better reels. I thing I might need to pick a couple up right now just to keep the two I like nice.

I keep 12 rods in the rod box and I never put one in out of a sleeve. Awesome for keeping them untangled and saving guides.

Ugh...and now the plague has struck our house :/.
Well I'm glad I got some decent ones to start off the month because this last part has been terrible for me. Last three times out never even got one bite.
Threw things I usually do and several others I usually don't. Nothing, Nada, Zip.
Anyway that's it for me this month, I have the wife's family coming in this week for her Mom & Dad's combined 80th birthday(s) party.
Good luck to the rest of you and hope you feel better soon Gator.

All caught on watermelon Zoom curl tails. The big girl inhaled the bait and I couldn't save her :-( I tried but she just didn't. No clue how she got hung so bad. Anyway there is a guy in a wheelchair that I see at the dock often. His brother in law keeps a few here and there. So I hit the dock and took her to their house. They were very happy to get it and he cleaned her up right then. First fish in a long time not make it on me. But it happens.

Nice fish west! You were really killing them today ;D >:D ~roflmao ~roflmao
Nice fish West. And it happens to all of us, don't sweat it.
Way I look at it West, is you did your best to save her and thats all you can do. We always feel bad for a fish that doesnt make it as well, but I think thats what makes all of us really appreciate these little green fish. If we can keep that thought in our head to try and release every single one unharmed, 99% of the time you will accomplish that.
Good on ya for finding someone worthy of a meal too, if it does happen its good to know you didnt let that fish go to waste. That is true conservationist, and my hat is off to ya!

WEST documented your catch. you bumped me off of 4th by 2". Nice catches!!
Hey West, did you try mouth to gill. lol The end of this month has been awful for me. My club tournament was terrible and then last week Lori had to go into the Hospital with chest pains. After three days in the Hospital, they at least found that there was no heart damage but they still don't know what is causing the pains. So I haven't been able to fish the last couple of weeks. I was hoping that next month would be better but I found out that my next club tournament would be at West Lake Toho so I'm not expecting it to be very good. If anyone has any advise about how to fish Toho, I would be so thankful. Also, great work to all who got out this month and fished. It's really about having fun.
P.S. Gator, hope all your family gets well soon.

Dang Tim tough going, hang in there cooler weather will be more steady and the fall feed is starting up.
Hope all is well with you and (I assume) your wife. Prayers sent.
I always like your reports because you are usually fishing the St. John's or somewhere close.
Thanks guys. She was a nice chunky fish too. But crap happens, part of the sport.
Tim I will say a prayer for your wife.
So... i am done for the month. I tried to do a last second outing to try gain back my spot from West, but it just didn't happen. I wasn't skunked, but my numbers didn't change either. Congrats to Chris. Great month bud. I will post the final numbers tonight and kickoff Nov.
My wife spend about seven hours at the Doctors office today. Hopefully they are narrowing down what is going on with Lori's chest. Right now the Doctors are saying that she has a blood clot that is causing the problem. They did several different test and said that besides the blood clot she also has pneumonia in her chest. I do not know if I trust anything the doctors say. This time it started with that she had potentially a blockage in her heart. The test at the hospital found out that she did not have any kind of heart problems. Now she has to go for more test on Monday where they will find out for sure if she has a blood clot, and if she does not have a blood clot then I don't know what the doctors will think it the matter. What every happens, please keep Lori in your prayers. Thank you all very much.
She could have a slight pulmonary embolism.

If your not feeling comfortable with the Drs your working with, unless you have no other choice, look to getting 2nd and 3rd opinions from other Drs not affiliated with them.
Sometimes you have trust in the Drs you see and sometimes you do not. I have switched Drs before if I felt I needed to. I am fortunate in that my wife works in an Hospital as an RN can refer me to which Drs are good and which ones to shy away from.
My brother was treated several times for having a Heart Attack until one of his Drs discovered he had one of those High Hernias in his stomach flap and it was stomach acid backing up that was burning him and causing the pain.
In any case, Best Wishes and Prayers for your wife Lori and we all hope that they find the cause soon.
TWIG, best wishes and prayers sent toward your wife Lori. May they find what's making her sick quickly, and may she recuperate fully.
