Title: Prop advice for 150hp Mercury Optimax
Post by: Hawgwild on July 12, 2015, 08:32:19 AM
Got a 24p Tempest Prop on my motor now and was thinking of going down to a 23p or lower pitch prop. Just wanting a little better hole shot. Motor is on a 18.5' Triton.

See many MERCURY QUICK SILVER LASER II props on sale on Ebay at decent prices ($175 or so)  Are these good props and prices or should I look for something else?

Have heard of the Merc Fury props but are a little more pricy than I want to pay.

Thanks,
Scottie

Scottie,

As you know I have the exact boat as you just a little older and mine has the Mercury XR6 150 on the back. Mine came equipped from the dealer with a Mercury Temptest plus 23P and I have been very happy with the performance this prop has provided for almost ten years now. Only time that the hole shot suffers some is when my livewells are full.

The laser is mercs basic prop. Nothing wrong with it for general use. If your just wanting a lower pitch spare, it could be a cheaper way to acquire that.

I run fury props. Love the performance, but they are pricy.

You've got enough folks around you that you could play with a few and see which one your boat (all can be slightly different) performs to your liking.
