Title: Mounting location for si transducer.
Post by: Tylermsawmiller on July 23, 2015, 04:35:44 PM
Thought I'd ask the experts before I started drilling holes into my transom.

Where would the best flow of water, without bubbles, be on my transom?

I fish in a lot of stump filled or just debris filled water and always recommend putting them on the jackplate. In fact mine is inside my jackplate, for maximum protection. I have to deal with some interference but know it.

If you don't want to do that, I'd consider putting it on the step down where your pump inlet/outlets are. SI is best at idle speeds so your whole boat will be in the water when scanning.

Mike, in the second picture you can see part of my jack plate, are you saying mount it just below the plate that is flush to the transom? Or up higher contained within the jack plate? How much interference do you experience?

All my mounting hardware is contained in the jack plate. The transducer is hanging just below flush with the bottom of the plate. My interfere in SI is basically what most consider prop wash anyway. On deeper depths it's not really noticable. On shallower water, anyone other than me just assumes it's prop wash.

On DI, I get a bounce back. There are faint lines across the screen about every 5-7 feet of coverage. I used to have some screen shots floating around. I'll look and see if I can find them.

Here is a thread I started about it a couple years ago.

With some adjustments I've been able to all but eliminate the bars. Setting the ducer lower by just an inch made all the difference in the world.
