Title: Sounds under the water!!
Post by: BassmanRudy on December 10, 2015, 11:21:29 AM
Found this on another site and WOW I was sure amazed by how sounds transferred underwater from above!! He had the microphone 10' under and like the trolling motor noise was REALLY LOUD!!

The Hydrowave wasn't as loud as I would have thought and that prop nut thing actually quieted down the trolling motor a good bit. And the human noise was way louder than what I expected so guess I won't be blasting the tunes anymore...

Very good video and it sure has me thinkin'. I've known sound travels well under water and I know my TM is loud on all but the lowest settings, it's on my to-do list. I fell in love with that Fortrex and the way it deploys. I do try to pay attention when I deploy it and ease it into the water but, I know I could be quieter.

I think that will be my New Year's resolution! Be quieter on the water!  ~shhh

I spearfish, and when doing it, I freedive (no tank, just my own breath).

In the ocean, I can hear a spiny lobster rasping from 50ft away.  That noise is much wuieter than any trolling motor I've ever heard.

When spearing in Arkansas, I surfaced carefully because I heard a humming noise.  The nearest boat was more than 100ft away, running just his trolling motor.

The deal is, most of the time, unless you get really close, or really, really loud, the fish don't seem to care.

I've been 20ft down, and had boats cruising over me with their trolling motors, and the fish I'm stalking haven't reacted at all.  But, if a person in that boat drops their rod on the deck, the fish flinch, often shooting off a several feet, before calming down and going back to what they were doing.

That was really some cool stuff! The 2nd video on how different baits sound was interesting as well.

Thanks for sharing!
