Anyone used this? I'm thinking of going with this on my frog rod. I'm running into a bind. I'm using a Shimano Exsence DC with bocas and 65# Daiwa J-Braid. I've backed it with the bare amount of 12# fluoro. I'm casting down to the backing on every cast. If I really whip it, it hits the knot. I either need thinner line or a different reel.
Which leads me to wanting to try the Maxcuatro. Says it's 25% thinner than most PP lines. Just curious to see if anyone has used it. Ya na?
Never tried that brand before but I've had these kind of problems from using rods with micro guide. On a non-micro guide rod, it fly like a dream.
How much line you casting out with that reel? Maybe go down to 50#? You don't need 65 in your area.

I'm getting about 50 yards maybe more. I could drop to 40 and be fine here, but I'd like to have heavy duty for Guntersville next year too.
You could just peal off a couple wraps of your backing :-* To be honest, I'm impressed that you have your backing that dialed in ~c~ Absolute no waste in primary (expensive) line :-*
I switched a couple reels to the Maxcuatro (I'm a die hard PP user) and have been extremely impressed. It's so thin that I have trouble seeing it to tie a knot (I am nearly 50 and my arms are getting very short). It casts like a dream, if you think regular power pro casts well, be prepared for even more effortless casting. Your distance will go up by 5 yards.
Two problems, it's horrible about cutting into the spool on a hook set. What I mean is when you set the hook the line will wedge between the line on the spool. So your next cast is doomed to stop at that point. I fix this when initially spooling up. I stick my finger between the line guide and the spool and force the windings to spread apart. Second problem is wind knots. Pay attention to the tip. If you're fishing a light bait in a lot of wind, you're going to get wind knots on your rod tip.
Last thing I'll mention is that this line is extremely thin and I'm concerned about it's abrasion resistance. With a thicker line loosing 10 percent to abraision doesn't hurt as much as with a thinner line. I've broke off twice, once on a tree root and once on a fish. I wasn't paying attention to the line so I don't know the condition it was in before it happened. I've since been paying closer attention (I got very lazy at this when fishing braid) and haven't had a problem.
I would highly recommend it for frog fishing. I still recommend it for everything else but watch it for abrasion.
Thanks Mike.
I'd use no backing at all, but this spool is slick with no cut outs at all.
This will only be used on my frog rod as I use J-Braid for everything else. Shouldn't be needing light baits.
Thanks again. I'll pick some up
You'll be happy with it. Electrical tape on the first winding helps the slippage problem ;) just ideas.

Rock if your throwing past the filler not, then load the spool with all braid.

^^ this ^^
Was that a typo or are you using fluoro for backing? I use big game mono for backing. Just spool your reel with less backing and more braid.

There is only maybe 5 yards of backing if that. Just enough to cover the spool

Sounds like a you have really shallow spool Rock, the 4 options I see for you is change the spool, change the braid to 50lbs, which I agree with LMG, try maxcuatro, or switch outfits. Use the DX outfit for punching and use the Point Blank for frogging.

The Maxcuatro is going to be my first option. Ok just curious to see if it really gives you as much extra capacity as they claim.
I don't think changing the spool is an option here since it's a DC. I really want to use this DC for frogging as distance is absurd and it screams

That DC is insane if your casting 50 yards. I launch my frog with the Met DC, but I don't know about 50 yards. Best of luck with the Maxcuatro trial, I'm curious to see how you like it.
You'll be able to put every bit of the %25 more line on your reel.

It is brother. That's why I want to use it so bad.
Got the Maxcuatro yesterday. After soaking it in KVD, spooled it up on the DC. This stuff is very thin. Holds more than enough line now.
The downside is this stuff is stiff as heck!
It will probably loosen up with use.

I'm guessing so. The reviews said it was much stiffer than original PP, but it laid on the spool very well. I'm going to work it out this weekend and see if that helps.

I feel like I could go fishing for toothy critters as stiff as it is lo
I really like the thin diameter of this line though. Still thick enough that it doesn't dig in bad like 30# but really strong. I was able to make an alberto knot with my backing that looks like a pro did it.
I honestly think I am getting longer casts that before with the J-Braid. So far, I'm pretty impressed.
If it's the same lb rating, the thinner diameter should yield a longer cast. J braid is pretty limp out of the box.
Answer this for me, how is the guide noise compared to OG PP.

Honestly none. It still sounds like a chain saw.
Braid noise, especially when a fish is on, is music to my ears... lo

He said "I know your not lying now.. I hear the braid" lol
