Title: Lake Hartwell help?
Post by: soonerbass on March 28, 2017, 07:56:38 AM
I will be driving in from Louisiana to fish a tournament on lake hartwell the first week of May.  Can anyone give me suggestions of decent areas on the lake, current lake level, usual water temp that time of year? Not looking for any secret spot but general information and may an area to start in.  Thanks in advance

I have never fished Lake Hartwell, however it is on the same chain (Savannah River) as Clark's Hill and I'm fishing there on Friday. I have several friends that have fished it and said the two lakes are very similar and fish the same. From what I know, it is also a Blueback Herring lake. If you have never fished a lake like that, forget everything you know and start reading up on herring!

The bass relate to the herring at all times and this time of year is the Best! The herring are spawning on main lake points and bass will be gorging on them all day. Topwater action will be HOT and will last all day. There will also be plenty of schooling bass. Best of luck to you and I hope you have a great time! 😀

Might be too late but I just got back from a week on the lake.

Hopefully you did well if the tournament is over.

I caught good numbers but not a lot of big fish.

Docks and points (7-10 FOW) was were I did the best at.

Topwaters, stick bait, t-rigged worms did best for me if windy there was a crankbait bite.
